Better image

5 out of 5 stars

Better image
Image is better than I would assume based on it being usb connection. The up-close blue reflection is showing the light refraction shown. The low light is not super impressive, but my robot has lights, I don't rely on low light cameras for quality video. Pretty compact and will fit perfect after I 3d print a mount. Usb cord is long enough that i will have to ziptie it inside.

I installed this in my laser engraver cabinet and works great with lightburn no issues.

I use this in my office as a video call camera and it does very well if the office is brightly lit. It does not do well if the ambient light in the office is low.

It does best with a fixed image to focus on. I would not recommend a lot of movement behind or in front of the main subject of the call.

I've not noticed too much quality lost with the USB 2.0 versus a 3.0 camera, but I don't do a lot of detailed work or require a lot of detailed video call settings or situations

Honestly I couldn't tell you why you'd ever get a prepackaged webcam when you can get this, as long as you have a decent mic and the ability to make a mount for this thing. It's certainly 1080p (or at least passes as such), and has a decent refresh rate. Heck, the video from it smashes what other cams have done, just solely on the premise that it's not full of a bunch of grain. The color out of it is a smidge odd, but nothing that you couldn't correct if you needed to using software. It's just a little more on the green side of things, but again, it's totally fine for most purposes as is. You just may want to do some color correction in OBS if you were to use it for streaming.

It's a pretty decent camera, wired up and works like a charm with an overall A+ video quality.
My only complaint is the claim of it being 'low light'.
While yes, it DOES work in low light situations, it apparently does so by jacking up the gain quite a lot, which results in a ton of noise.

Other than that, it's pretty ok. Don't buy specifically for it's low-light capabilities.

I'm using this as a secondary camera with OctoPrint (alongside a Pi Camera with the ribbon cable), and it works great! There are cases available online to print for this, which you can adapt to your project as you see fit.

    Pros:
    Good video quality
Being just the PCB and lens, it's easy to build into your project
Cases already designed on popular 3d Printing websites

    Cons:
This thing runs warm! Make sure whatever enclosure you use has a bit of ventilation. It doesn't need a fan or heatsink or anything, just some vent holes to allow the heat to escape

    Other notes:
    – You can break off the outer portion of the PCB if needed to fit into a smaller enclosure. In my case, I had to remove it in order for it to fit properly. All of the electronics are on the main part of the board, so snapping off the outer ring doesn't do any harm.
    – The USB cable has a header connection to the board, which is removable. If you break/lose it, you might have trouble finding a replacement. (The included cable is pretty heavy duty, and is honestly overkill for this. I approve!)

I would definitely consider this item again for future products, especially where a Pi Camera just doesn't make sense.

I picked this camera up so I could mount it above my work space to use as another camera for when I film instruction videos on my youtube channel. This camera is plug and play with my windows PC. I was able to add this camera to my recording profile in OBS as a generic USB camera and now have picture in picture for my recordings.

The camera does not have an autofocus so when you move the camera in too close it will not focus. The images seem to be at their best when the camera is about 12" to 24" aways from the object. The locked in focus works well for my application as I was able to 3d print a mounting arm for it. You can find several 3d printed files for ELP cameras that fit this unit.

This camera works well for specialized needs and has a clear picture. The only negative is that the USB cord is only 3 feet long but you can find extensions for it. There really are no negatives for it and it works perfectly.

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I bought this, but it was kind of a let down for me.

There is no auto-focus and this makes it impossible to get close up video to come into focus. In fact, I couldn't get a perfectly focused image at any distance. I could get close to focused, but never perfectly focused.

Another reason I think the picture quality is rather poor from this camera is because it is only USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0. This means the video must be highly compressed to work within the bandwidth constraints of USB 2.0.

Also, even though this is touted as a low light camera, the video quality isn't very good in low light conditions.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much out of such an inexpensive camera, but I have to say that I'm rather disappointed with the particular unit I received. Who knows, maybe you will get lucky and receive a better camera than I did.

This is good quality camera and will be great from some projects I have lined up. Picture is sharp and the build is good quality.
Easy to use and test (simple usb plug) with many options for final setup
