I'm using this as a secondary camera with OctoPrint (alongside a Pi Camera with the ribbon cable), and it works great! There are cases available online to print for this, which you can adapt to your project as you see fit.
Pros:
Good video quality
Being just the PCB and lens, it's easy to build into your project
Cases already designed on popular 3d Printing websites
Cons:
This thing runs warm! Make sure whatever enclosure you use has a bit of ventilation. It doesn't need a fan or heatsink or anything, just some vent holes to allow the heat to escape
Other notes:
– You can break off the outer portion of the PCB if needed to fit into a smaller enclosure. In my case, I had to remove it in order for it to fit properly. All of the electronics are on the main part of the board, so snapping off the outer ring doesn't do any harm.
– The USB cable has a header connection to the board, which is removable. If you break/lose it, you might have trouble finding a replacement. (The included cable is pretty heavy duty, and is honestly overkill for this. I approve!)
I would definitely consider this item again for future products, especially where a Pi Camera just doesn't make sense.
