I am giving this little translator 4 stars – I’ve had mixed experiences with it. Regarding ease of use, I used this translator with translating Italian, and Spanish. Hands-down, it worked better with Italian. I heard on many occasions, “Why don’t you just use the translation on your phone?” There are a few reasons. This translator is much smaller than the standard phone. Also, you can use the translator off-line when you might not be able to use your phone for lack of data connection. It has a handy little elastic strap so it hangs on your wrist and it will stay in a pocket. It is super small and convenient to carry around it is only about 4 to 5 inches high. This translator comes with a three year SIM card package already included – yes! My first attempt at using the translator was during a trip to Mexico. I also sought to use it locally at home in the US with Spanish. While I understand there are various dialects of Spanish, overall, translation did not go very well. I am unsure of the demographics for the Spanish speakers. Suffice it to say when I allowed others access to speak Spanish into the translator, the translator did not accept the spoken Spanish and properly convert it into an English version. They would speak into the translator, but gibberish would come out. This happened several times with a variety of speakers speaking. On the contrary, when I spoke with others in Italian, it was much easier. I spoke English into the translator, it’s translated into Italian and voilà whatever I needed or ask for was understood. With the English (or native language) coming first, you control the input so that you can keep the pronunciation and everything clear. You can’t always control the other speakers’ pronunciation or enunciation or dialect I imagine so there’s that part. I liked that this translator saves the queries also. If you ask one question and then another one afterwards, the information remains handy so that you can scroll up to see the old conversation. Practice makes perfect with this and you have to practice using it for it to be effective. I charged it along with my phone – I caught myself all too often needing it, but it was dead because I had allowed it to run out of charge. Ultimately, once you get the hang of this, and if you keep it charged, it’s a handy little tool to use when you’re traveling or just out and about in the community!
