Great sound with some tweaking!

5 out of 5 stars

Great sound with some tweaking!
Size & Fit: I have trouble with earbuds and have returned a few due to issues with fit. These however fit really well when the right ear tip size is found. It took some playing around with but I found that the large had the best fit and noise isolation for me. The nice thing is that these buds come with 5 different ear tip sizes which I'd say covers most ear canal sizes. Soundcore was very generous with the selection provided. The buds stay snug and don't hurt my ears even with several hours of use. Ease of use: These earbuds just work! They connected to my phone really fast and even displayed an image of the buds in the case (like samsung or apple do). The connection is stable and I've so far had zero issues in that department. When paired with the app, the customization is broadly widened and lots of things can be set to your heart's desire. I especially appreciate the amount of touch control settings and what you can control with touch. Sound quality: The one things I had the most trouble with was sound quality. I messed with just about every setting in order to get these to sound the way I wanted them to. After hours of tweaking, the one thing that put my troubles to rest was tweaking the EQ just right. I will share exactly how I set the EQ with an image, but once this was set I fell in love with the sound. It's quite impressive what these mid-budget earbuds can kick out with the right adjustment and ear tip fit. Personally ldac didn't make a big enough difference to keep it on and Hear ID/Soundcore Signature EQs sounded a bit too muffled for my taste. Ultimately an EQ that reduced bass, pull backed the mids, and elevated the highs made these sound perfect to me (and I'm picky!). Mic and noise canceling: The mic setup on these buds allows me to talk in a 80db environment and the person on the other end can here me clearly enough tk make out what I'm saying. What they've done with this mic setup is also nothing short of impressive. It does what it needs to do and I have zero complaints about it. Despite the comments on the ANC, I've found that it is good enough. I work in a loud environment and it makes a very noticeable difference. No, it is not as good as Airpod Pros or Buds 2 Pro, but it is good enough and definitely great for the cost. Overall verdict: These buds are worth every penny and come with plenty of features that I believe will suit the majority of consumers. If you are on a budget and want the most bang for your buck, these are the ones to go with. No doubt.

In my opinion by far the best headphones for the price point. I’ve tried JBL and Beats in the same price category and have to say these are better than both in my opinion. Audio quality is good, sounds very clear. Comes with 5 or 6 different size tips and are very comfortable to wear. Haven’t had a single issue with them falling out. The noise canceling function works great. The awareness mode is great however you do get some loud feedback if it is very windy or around a lot of air movement. They pair quickly when connecting and make answering phone calls easy. Lastly and most important to me is they do not have the annoying low static back ground noise when there is no audio playing. Over all highly recommend 👍

Own a set of P40s bought here also… and have some meaningful comparisons to make with this A40.

Bought the P40s for their frankly amazing battery life claims (which in the field have proven to be accurate and not just plausibly-deniable marketing). A40 has two hrs less life on full charge, which drove me to the P40s — which also wowed with its *amazing* sound vs. my old inferior pair of Jabra Elite 7 Pros at dbl the retail price. So far so good…

But over time the one flaw (at least for this user) P40 had, became an issue: fitment is dirt-poor — meaning they fall out of ears or need adjustment constantly, in my ears at least. The Jabras were already bad due to how heavy they are vs. the 2024 crop of Li-powered earbuds… but P40 despite feeling half the weight of the Jabras in-hand… fell out like I'd used too-small an earcup. Wrong, as the only size that wouldn't fail the Fit Test on the Soundcore app, did feel initially to seal correctly. The problem is the oblong design of the cups themselves — you cannot get an oval cup to fit in a round canal and seal, again at least in my ears.

So when resting on the sofa, they need minding and readjusting about once every 10m or so, just to preserve their great sound… which is a showstopper.

So saw these A40s did not use an oval earcup, but a round one. Not surprisingly taking them out of the box this morning, fit *perfectly* with the same earcup size Fit Test suggested in the app for P40. To boot, the shape of the A40 differs from the Jabras (similar form factor) in that they are a bit shorter, thus stay in contact with the skin of the outer ear more closely — leading to better retention. I can shake my head as hard as I can, and the fit stays the same — the Jabras would be in the gutter on a run, which was frustrating as they retailed for $129, more than dbl the cost of these A40s.

So were curious about 1) sound, and 2) battery life. Battery will need a few days to figure out, so will update later with more field exps… but the sound? Tbh the only difference I hear P40 vs A40… is the dynamic rage of the A40 is ever-so-slightly muddier. But the P40 won't resolve bass as well, and will clip, again ever-so-slightly, as long as you haven't cranked preamp settings thru the roof. So for the bulk of my listening (80% YT and calls, 20% music) the A40 is the better buy — unless of course you want them to last a flight from NZ <–> HI, or UK <–> TH — which 90% of earbuds will tap out long before the landing sequence.

So far, having tuned A40 with the app… the only things I find the P40s do better, is respond to touch controls (takes a half-sec vs. virtually instantly), which is offset by the P40 touch 'area' on the earbud body being way too sensitive — much easier to adjust the A40s in your ear w/o activating touch controls — which to me is preferable. The case holds just as much charge in hrs-playtime, so really for my use case the A40s have it.

Still like the P40s, and will defo take them on long roadtrips or flights, granted no running w/ bags in the airport's a given (which tbh it never is 100% 😅). So P40 will serve bedtime duty and A40s will be for the road and office (job requires lots of moving around and lots of head articulation away from eyes-horizon… which the P40s have dropped out of ears more times than I can count). Reviews for these, pls believe them when they say, it's a great buy not to be missed if you like snug fitment *and* awesome sound.

Five stars; will update if any showstoppers or concerns pop up ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    UPDATE 10 FEB 25:

Having tried both the P40i and A40 now a couple of weeks… I can without any reservation whatsoever endorse getting the A40 between the two.

Not only is it less expensive, but the difference in ear tip design + more secure fit in my particular ears make both a secure fit when in different body positions, and doesn't sacrifice any quality of sound I can detect (P40i still feel as if it's a hybrid betw. the no-eartip, non-sealed designs, and true round-section ear-canal-sealing earbuds — without a clear advantage over each). The only advantage P40i offers for its price tbh, is a slightly more feature-full options list in the Soundcore app, and better advertised battery life on one charge and in the case — that's it. 10H in my use case is plenty of life, and both take less than 15m on a 2A charger to go from the 'recharge battery' warning, to 100%.

Anker has a winner in the A40, by balancing the features I want, with cost. Both the fancy Liberty and P40i both seem to be less so in this regard, given the considerable premiums over A40. I'll be keeping my P40i around, as it's still a better-than-average earbuds…, but they'll be more on backup / loss duty, than daily / sports use.

    TL;DR:

Pros: Amazing bass response for the price; nearly all the bells and whistles available in the P40i for much less cash; nearly identical and very brief charging times vs. P40i; better fit in my ear canals in all situations — did I mention it's less cash upfront?

Cons: 2H less battery life on a single charge; some options like control of normal/transparency/noise cancellation aren't customisable for each earbud, selections apply to both earbuds

Get the A40. Or get two, as I'll be doing soon, so you're never interrupted on the road 😀

    Color: WhiteVerified Purchase

I've been using the same TOZO earbuds for 2 years and decided to buy these earbuds for these reasons: 1) longer battery life, 2) more options for sound modes, and 3) better connection with my iPhone. To give a little background, I primarily wear earbuds while working, commuting on the bus, and for personal use at home. But unfortunately, I decided to return the Soundcore earbuds for a few reasons. Continue reading below for my reasons why.

    Likes:
    1) I really like the sound quality options as well as the ability to adjust the sound quality, using the Soundcore app which I think is a definite must if you want more control over the sound quality. I've really enjoyed switching between the ANC & transparency modes as they are surprising modes I never realized I wanted. With TOZO, I could only wear 1 earbud when using them at work so I can still hear my surroundings. But with the Soundcore earbuds on transparency mode, I can wear both earbuds and still hear the ongoings around the office near my desk.

    2) The battery life is also a godsend in both the earbuds and the charging case. I don't think I fully realized when purchasing, how fast the earbuds would charge when in the case. At one point, I used the earbuds for 8 hours between ANC & transparency mode, charged the earbuds in the charging case for 15 minutes when I was on my break, and when I went to use them again afterward the earbuds were already 80-100% charged as according to my iPhone. Considering how often I use the earbuds after 8-10 hrs per day and 4-5 days of use from a full charge, the battery life is still 2 lights remaining which according to the Soundcore manual should be about 70-50% battery life remaining (I think that's the right range).

    3) After using the TOZO earbuds, I've grown to appreciate wireless charging which the Soundcore earbuds do so that's a plus. Much easier for me as I'm still unused to using a USB-C cable which the Soundcore earbuds do come with, but I just have not liked charging my earbuds with a cord as much.

    Dislikes:
    1) As much as I love the sound modes, I desperately need as much noise canceling as possible when using earbuds at home/commuting. So when I'm at home/commuting, I more often use the ANC mode on these earbuds. The audio setting does perform noise canceling well but these fall below the bar when I compare these earbuds to my TOZO earbuds which block out more noise than the Soundcore earbuds. I can cancel out more noise on the Soundcore earbuds by raising the volume under ANC mode. But as much as I would like to continue that method on the Soundcore earbuds, I value retaining my hearing as much as I can.

    2) Connection-wise for the Soundcore earbuds with my iPhone was good to a point. Connecting to my iPhone was no issue, it was some situations in retaining that connection when going about my day is the issue. I've found the audio connection for the Soundcore earbuds cuts off when I'm on the bus/car (don't worry I'm not the one who's driving). When the vehicle (bus/car) drives over a very bumpy road/highway, the audio cuts off in response until the vehicle is back onto a smoother road/highway. I've also noticed this connection issue when I'm walking around my apartment complex, specifically when I walk under and through a small hallway to enter between complex buildings (my apartment complex is primarily outdoors when navigating between complex buildings to access apartment units). I had this issue recently with my TOZO earbuds so I'm sad I'm already having this issue with the Soundcore earbuds right out of the box. Mind you, the Soundcore earbuds I received may be a previously returned set that was already opened.

    3) Receiving the Soundcore earbuds already opened dampened my experience with these earbuds early on. But I knew this was a familiar tactic that Amazon often does if the condition of the item is still almost good as new. So I tried to keep my fingers crossed that using the earbuds changed my mind since the earbuds still looked unused and had no residue of dirt on the earbuds themselves. I still cleaned the earbuds myself just in case, especially nowadays with the pandemic.

    Overall:
The fact that qualities I liked with the TOZO earbuds were missing out for me when using the Soundcore earbuds (sound quality) and I started having the same issues with the Soundcore earbuds as I currently have with my TOZO earbuds (connection issue), this was big negative for me since I still wanted to retain that quality as this was a $99 purchase.
But I still rated these earbuds 4 stars because I really liked the battery life which exceeded my expectations and I really liked the type of sound quality modes in tandem with the Soundcore app as it really helped me customize my experience day to day depending on what activity I'm doing (commuting or at work).

Fantastic headphones – blend of sound performance and noise cancelling at a competitive price

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 27, 2025

I currently have the Sony WF1000xm3's and the battery life is now only about 45mins (I am going to replace the batteries as they are still nice headphones) but I wanted something to quickly use for a trip to Italy so took a bit of an impulse buy with these at a low cost. Well I have been very impressed. The sound quality is excellent, the noise cancelling is very good as well. Battery life has been really impressive going days without needing a recharge. The buds come with various tips to suit different ear types (medium worked for me)

The case is much smaller than the Sony and offers wireless charing which works with my Anker 2in1 iPhone charger which is great. The app is also very good and you can customise your sound profile and what the controls on the buds do. I went for the blue colour and it's a dark navy with a subtle shine which looks smart.

Overall I think these headphones are a fantastic option and an absolute steal for the cost so would definitely recommend these. I've been waiting for the AirPods Pro 3 to come out but tbh I think these will do me fine – they link seamlessly to iPad and iPhone and come at a fraction of the cost the apple ones will be.

Reviewed in France on December 14, 2022

    Color: BlackVerified Purchase
