Perfect international hotspot
I did a TON of research on hotspots for international travel and originally bought the Solis Hero 4G LTE, but ended up returning that to purchase the 5G hotspot and here’s why: Simo’s data plans are pricey and I didnt end up using them. This product (5G Solis Pro) has a slot for a physical SIM card so you’re not tied to the pricey plan. Make sure to plan in advance because data only plans are unique – for example, I found one easily in Australia, but people were VERY confused when I asked about data only in New Zealand. You can buy SIM cards before you leave the country to avoid this. You can use a normal SIM card that has data, but you need to have a phone to activate (newer iPhones won’t work because they don’t have a physical sim slot). It’s nice to have the option to use the Simo service if you can’t find a SIM card, so it was a safe option all the way around. I did not have trouble with throttling and did not notice a difference between Simo service and SIM card service. Highly recommend the Pro version, you’ll save money in the end!!

    This delivers exactly what they promise. There seem to be fewer and fewer companies who deliver on what they promise, but SIMO delivers. 4G LTE Hotspot? Check. 1GB per month free for life? Check, so far. (will take some time for this!) Global roaming without need for SIM card? Check. And they go beyond… the range is impressive. Battery life is impressive. It is tiny. It is simple to use and it just works, We have used it in the US, Canada, and Mexico, so far. Just turn it on and connect any of your devices. IT JUST WORKS! No messing with a data provider (they already did that). No messing with SIM cards (they already did that). We use it as a universal backup and if you can keep your data use below IGB/mo (we have) it is free to use after purchase! So wonderful to see a company deliver on what they promise.

    EXACTLY ONE WEEK AGO I SPENT ALMOST $90 FOR A ONE MONTH UNLIMITED INTERNET PLAN FOR MY SOLIS WIFI DEVICE! A WEEK LATER I CAN'T EVEN WATCH MY TV BECAUSE SOLIS'S "CUSTOMER SERVICE" IS CURRENTLY TELLING ME (I HAVE THEM IN A *WORTHLESS* TECH SUPPORT CHAT AS I TYPE THIS):

    "YOU'VE ALREADY USED YOUR 100 GB OF HIGH SPEED INTERNET FOR YOUR UNLIMITED ONE MONTH PLAN. AFTER THE 100 GB IS USED YOUR SPEED SLOWS DOWN."

    I TOLD HIM "IF YOU BUY AN UNLIMITED ONE MONTH PLAN AND AFTER ONLY ONE WEEK YOU CAN'T EVEN WATCH YOUR TV, THAT MEANS SOLIS IS ABSOLUTELY USELESS!"

    HIS RESPONSE WAS (HIS NAME IS MICHAEL):

    "It is not useless; you still have data, only slower. This information is not hidden from you. At any moment, you can see on the website that it states the data is unlimited, but it slows down afterwards."

    I RESPONDED "There's literally nothing working in my home. The only tv I have connected keeps going out every 5-10 seconds, so YES it is USELESS when I can't even watch TV with it. I'll just go back to my regular home internet and throw this absolute junk out. it's far cheaper than $90 a month and I've never had any kind of issue like this with ANY internet company before! I can understand a slower speed (which for $90 bucks it's STILL ridiculous that they slow the internet speed down, especially to the extent that NOTHING that uses wifi will even WORK at their "slower speed)"!

    I also told him that I purchased this JUNK from Amazon and that I WILL be heading to their review section to warn people to STAY FAR AWAY from their scam, which is what I believe it to be!!!! I still have THREE WHOLE WEEKS left of my ONE MONTH "UNLIMITED" PLAN, and as of about 30 mins ago, my ONE MONTH UNLIMITED PLAN is obviously over after only one week…again, for almost $90 bucks!!!

    If nothing in my home will stay connected to this pile of straight GARBAGE the only thing I have left to say about Solis/SOMO is that it's a SCAM!!!!

    Once I told "Michael" I was leaving a review on Amazon, he immediately ended the conversation and disconnected the chat! So not only is Solis a SCAM, their customer service is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!

    My cellphones are through T Mobile and they too slow down unlimited cellphone internet after so much of the high speed internet is used, but guess what? When this happens, I don't even notice it's been slowed down because the internet on my family's phones have ZERO problems staying connected, and there's absolutely ZERO problem watching videos/movies etc., on our cellphones, even when they've slowed down the speed.

    Oh and on one last horrid note:

    Solis/Somo wants me to pay ANOTHER $40-$70 to get the high speed data back for the three weeks of my "One Month Internet Plan" that I have left on top of the almost $90 I've ALREADY PAID A WEEK AGO, WHICH I'M ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NOT DOING!!! They got me once, but it definitely isn't happening TWICE!

    Why did you pick this product vs others?:
    I have no idea but I DEFINITELY wish I would have picked a different company because this one is HORRIBLE!

    I travel a lot in my campervan for work and this cute little device has worked fantastically for me. It’s so easy to use. I am able to stream movies, and work online almost everywhere there is any phone signal. I also use this in conjunction with my cell phone signal booster when cell towers are few and far between. I love that it is unaffiliated with any particular provider so that it can choose the strongest signal and that it offers complete flexibility for purchasing data. I love it.

    I originally purchased this device as my home broadband had failed and I needed to stay online to work from home.

    It's a fabulous product, finding networks easily and the connection is stable. Even better is that you receive 1GB of data free per month, so if you are just needing something to keep you online and not downloading large files then you will not need to pay anything.

    I travel all over the world for business, and this has kept me online at pretty much every location. The app is simple to use and the various data packages are reasonable for what they are. I would recommend this for people who travel.

    I am now waiting for the 5G Solis Edge to find it's way to Amazon!

    Contrairement à ce qu'indique un commentaire précédent en anglais, cet appareil acheté sur Amazon.fr et vendu par “EZY commerce” (e-Comas SARL) inclut bien le plan “à vie” de 1 Go de données par mois, qui s'active automatiquement dès la mis en service.
    C'était mon inquiétude à la lecture du commentaire précédent, qui est donc inexact ou correspond à un vendeur différent.

    La mise en oeuvre de ce petit routeur est très simple, son usage facile.
    La portée de la connexion Wi-Fi ne semble pas extraordinaire, mais elle est correcte.

    je ne sais pas si la connexion offerte par cet appareil est meilleure que la connexion partagée par mon téléphone, mais cet appareil présente l'avantage de pouvoir se connecter à tous les opérateurs, en France ou à l'étranger, même dans une zone non ou mal couverte par votre opérateur habituel, et sans surprises de facturations excessives de “Roaming” à l'étranger (avec un opérateur mobile “pas cher”, j'ai pris 50 € de facture de données au Canada simplement en 30 minutes entre l'aéroport et l'hôtel, sans avoir utilisé le téléphone ! Ça calme…)

    Ce petit appareil est donc destiné à éviter ce genre de mauvaise surprise et à partager en famille une connexion à un prix maîtrisé, en France ou à l'étranger.

    Les “plans” de données proposés par le fournisseur ne sont pas exceptionnellement bon marché (largement plus cher que les données de mon abonnement Free Par exemple) mais l'avantage est de pouvoir ne les acheter et utiliser que dans la mesure de son besoin.

    Le Go gratuit par mois “à vie” (que je comprends plutôt comme 256 Mo par semaine, non reportables) ne permettra pas d'aller bien loin, mais d'au moins toujours disposer d'une connexion de dépannage pour accéder à ses mails ou… le temps d'acheter un plan de données plus généreux, en voyage…

    Bref a priori l'appareil est conforme à ses promesses, reste à voir ce que ça donnera en usage réel en terme de débit, de couverture et de coût de données.
