This was exactly what I was looking for. Easy access to swap a drive if I need to and best part of all IT HAS A POWER SWITCH ON IT! Now for those of you that wonder why I say that. First of all I work on computers and I also edit audio and video files for various companies for commercials, demos, theatrical events and that's my side business and hobby. So I move around a lot of large raw and wav and assorted video files and backup applications and then there's Windows 10. If you live and breath in windoze land and by their rules like an ostrich with your head in the sand or a sheep then you may as well stop reading this and move on. But if you run multiple operating systems like I do then golden rule #1. Windows watches and monitors EVERYTHING you do constantly. All my documents pictures and private things are kept on external drives specifically for this reason and also because I want to be able to use them in various flavors of linux or on mac as well. so ALL of it stays on externals nicely out of windows prying eyes. I can plug this drive the way I have it set up into any pc, and use the on and off switch when I want something from it. This completely stops all this "you need to scan and fix this drive before you can use it" crap. Now anyone that uses other operating systems knows no matter what you do, even if you use the little eject usb options in windows, if you run the drive on a different operating system first time you use it on windows again its going to do this and also it may ask you or tell you to reformat the drive. There is nothing wrong with anything except its just windows getting prissy cause you used another operating system besides theirs. this is the only reason this happens. I say prissy cause amazon wont let me say B—-y in a review but this is the bare facts. Windows thinks its the only thing in the world worth using and they want you to think that too. Anyway I dropped a Crucial BX500 1tb sold state drive in this and its perfect, and does everything I want it to and I'm getting great read and write speeds and a lot faster than any of the seagate or WD external drives and it does exactly what I want. The only thing that would make it any better was if it was externally powered so windows couldn't put it to sleep. If you use external drives and are tired of drives sleeping and windows constantly nagging you about what you do with it then try doing it thsi way. Its faster, its solid state so you don't have to worry about shock speeds or heat and its fast. Extremely fast depending on the drive you choose to put in it and best of all its actually lower in priceand you get better performance than the other "ready-to-go" off the shelf pre made externals. Read a little, learn a little and try it yourself and save yourself some money time and frustration. and dont let the odd usb cable fool you, they are easy to find and the connector is a lot less trouble free than a mini usb or type c and the best part of it, you can use this setup with a common cable they way I have it set up with any android or apple phone that allows external storage so its versatile as well. Just buy it. You wont regret it. I have mine setup with 2 partitions. one set up as storage and I have a 40gb partition with Linux Mint 64 bootable on it all set up as a service toolbox for other PC's as well and it just flies in anything I attach it to. A lot faster than a flash drive and 900gb of space to do or save anything else you want. You cant make a seagate or WD prefab external do that like this and have it run this well. There's absolutely no cons here, just possibly the perfect external drive case.
