I got this RCA universal remote to replace our old one, which we've had for about 10(?) Years or so. I mainly got this because its practically the same as our old one. The other remotes are too fancy for my mom. Aka too many buttons and shes scared she'll mess something up. So I found this one and got it since all she needs it for is the volume button. Our old ones volume button was..well awful. It kept popping out. Anyways, instructionsare super easy to follow and understand, making it super easy to set up. Or well it is IF you have BRAND NEW batteries. Repeat; BRAND NEW batteries (it takes 2 double A). I tried using the ones from our old remote in this new one..it would NOT work! Mom went and bought new batteries, popped them in and then BAM! It worked. At first I thought the codes were wrong, had even googled the codes but nope..it was batteries. It wanted new batteries in order to work. 11.99 (at the time of this review) seems a bit pricey.. especially since I was seeing others as low as 6.99..but I knew this wouldn't overwhelm mom. And since its practically the same make and model as our old one, I would like to hope and assume this would have a long battery and working life. I would also hope it is just as durable as our old one.

    WOW… I just got this remote.
    I have a conglomeration of entertainment devices consisting of:

    1. an 'old' (for me it's new) flat screen RCA that was given to me …but no original remote. I had an old universal remote that sort-of worked.

    2. a refurbished OLD dvd/vcr combo unit…with no controls on the box itself and no remote works with it. I have been stuck at the opening credits on anything if I have to choose what I want to do. Opening credits h*ll. No menu options. (Note: putting your face down next to the combo and screaming "PLAY DAMN YOU, PLAY" does not work.)

    3. a refurbished Roku.

    So, I had the universal remote for the tv to power on/off with volume control and changing the source, and I have a crappy replacement Roku remote that you basically have to point DIRECTLY at the infra receptor (no slight turn to the left right, up or down is acceptable. It is a cruel master) and as mentioned, nothing for the dvd/vcr combo unit. A useless thing that takes up space, dangerously close to being scrapped. This new remote was it's very last chance.

    The remote came. I was skeptical. Nothing else had ever worked.

    The code for the tv worked!! First attempt!! OMG tv WITH features. Then, amazingly…ROKU compatibility!!! Again, first attempt!! I was laughing out loud at each success.

    and then…first attempt on the combo – The seller here VERY kindly sent me a suggested code when I asked about it- …I CAN NOW WATCH DVDs!!! I CAN CHOOSE MY OPTIONS. I CAN FINALLY EXERCISE WITH JILLIAN MICHAELS!! (oh… dang…I may not have thought this through properly…)

    I am sitting in a world of wonder right now.

    * One remote to rule them all. One remote to bind them. One remote to work them all, and in the couch to find them. *

    I am thrilled not only with the help of the seller (thank you!!) but also with the ease and excellent results of this remote.

    The remote that came with the new RCA TV all the buttons are the same size. TV is great. But you can't just feel in the dark and find the volume up and down and the channel up and down. so I order this big button remote for my wife. It is easy to use without looking at the remote. it is fast to respond and you do not have to admit directly at the TV. All the functions work.

    It was easy to set up to our new TV just read that quick scan easy set-up guide dad had it working in less than 4 maybe5 minutes. Fits nicely in your hand. Very easy to hang on to.

    A good basic universal remote for a good price

    I bought the remote to control a TV, an external DVD for which I lost the remote, and an Apple TV. The remote works correctly for controlling the TV and the DVD player. It fails when trying to control the Apple TV even though there is an Apple code. The remote controls almost all functions of the Apple TV except, as others have reported, the OK button. So while you can browse the Apple TV's menus and listings all you want you cannot select any of them, so this is a big failure of the remote. As for the layout of the remote, most of the keys are of ample size, larger than most remotes and not crowded with unnecessary buttons. However, the arrow buttons and the OK button are smaller and too closely located. Also, it would be better if the device buttons for switching between which device you are controlling we larger. The backlight button stays lit for a short period of time after any button has been pressed but then goes out. After than, if you are watching anything in a darkened room you will have to try to hit the "light" key by luck or memory or press any ket to get the "light" key to backlight, then press it to get the main backlight to turn on. But all that work will be mostly for naught because the backlight only lights up the "Guide" button and the arrow and Ok button in the center of the remote. Overall, this a an ok remote that provides the basic functions of a universal remote without all the over the top but mostly useless features of the more expensive (overpriced) brands. I had to take away a star for lack of support for the Apple TV and for the poor design of the backlight.

    I bought this for my older sister to use with a 5 year old Proscar TV and a 16 year old Magnavox DVD player. She is 69 years old and of above average intelligence, but is often intimidated by complicated instructions, especially if they use 'technical' terms. Technical terms in her case includes any number of words such as streaming, cloud storage, or anything she isn't familiar with.

    In changing the batteries n the remote for the TV she somehow bent the springs and then trying to fix them she broke the attachment points to the PCB and killed the remote. Did I mention she's 'technologically challenged'? Due to its age, the lettering on the DVD remote is mostly worn off, so I wanted a simple intuitive remote with clearly labeled buttons.

    I dropped it off with my sister mid afternoon and told her to feel free to try programming it for her TV, but told her not to sweat the DVD because at its age it seemed over optimistic to think any current remote woukd connect with it. I planned to stop by later to do the programming since she had explained how little luck she's had over the last few years with universal remotes.

    When I went by I was amazed at what I found. My sister was watching a DVD I'd loaned he, and when I came in she muted the sound then thought better and paused the movie, USING HER NEW REMOTE!

    She informed me that she had programmed it to work with the TV and the DVD player in less than 10 minutes using the included instructions….

    NOTE : I originally rated this with 4 stars, but considering the features, including backlit keys, built in code scanning, and the ability to to control not only state of the art smart TVs and Streaming Players but a 16 year old DVD player as well, it clearly deserves 5 stars. Considering the price, it deserves more than 5 stars.

    I bought this remote to use with a Vizio P659-G1 TV and Roku Ultra streaming box.
    I have two different kind of Vizio remotes and hate them both, they have really cheap feeling buttons and are often hard to press (have to be dead center of the small buttons).
    This RCA remote fixed the problem, the buttons feel great, it works perfectly with both my Vizio TV and Roku Ultra. I am very pleased with this and wish I would have gotten this way sooner.
    I had no problems setting it up to work with both devices.
    Excellent remote if you hate the crappy one that comes with Vizio TV's
