REVISED 5/25/2024 Failed Camera returned – one has told me when replacement unit will be shipped
REVISED REVIEW: I have finally received communication regarding my OBSBOT TAIL AIR. The replacement camera arrived 5/24/2024, and my return shipping fees were reimbursed. This was accomplished through customer support agent Tessa Huang. The replacement TAIL AIR worked right out of the box and has outstanding features and functions, so I'm hopeful this camera will outlive the previous one. Thanks, Ms Huang, for wading through the confusion and resolving my issue. You've restored my confidence with your company.INITIAL REVIEW: This camera worked well for 3 weeks then it began displaying colored bars. I performed a factory reset without success. Amazon's return window ended 3 days before failure. Contacted OBSBOT customer service detailing the problem. Received email support@obsbot.com requesting information about the Amazon sale, problem description, and screenshot of purchase. After submitting this information, I received an email saying they would accept the unit and send me a replacement. I sent the unit via USPS to:Carson Worldwide Inc.-Carson-RM-011005 Whitehead Road Ext.Ewing, NJ 08638USA848-2xx-xxx6They said they would return a working unit and refund my shipping costs via Paypal. I provided the information they requested and the returned camera, which they received on 5/17/2024. On 5/18 I emailed support@obsbot.com asking when the new unit would be sent and was told it would be shipped in a few days. I received no follow-up, so on 5/23/2024 I called the number to the location where I sent the camera. This is the reason for my review: The person who answered the phone told me he had no connection to the seller and had no idea if/when/how a replacement camera would come to me. He also said, "You're not the only one who hasn't heard of OBSBOT about now hearing from or receiving their replacement camera". He told me I should contact Amazon directly because they don't want to contact the seller directly. But Amazon already told me the return window expired 3 days before the camera failed.After reading the FB OBSBOT Tail Air group, It is clear that my camera's failure is not unique and is known by the company. Along with other reviews detailing camera problems, I'm not convinced this is a quality/reliable camera.If I hear from OBSBOT with confirmation of a working replacement unit being sent and me receiving it I'll update this review, but until then this review will stand.Currently, I do not recommend purchasing OBSBOT Tail Air, or the reliability of the company if the unit fails.

    We create three types of content. Lives (streaming/Twitch), shorts (TikTok), and long form content (YouTube). This camera has changed how we produce all of our content, for the better.

    1. The camera is actually good. The lens is a 23mm f/1.8. If you know about camera lenses, then you know how much that alone could cost. We've tried a few different cameras over the years and this one is seriously good for the price.

    2. Our workflow while we record in the shop is so much more efficient because of the AI tracking features. The time we spent moving one camera from place to place in the shop is now just placing the camera in an angle that can see most of our workspace and then we use hand gestures to track and zoom.

    3. Connectivity is easy since there are multiple ways to connect the tail air. You can plug in the camera via the USB-C cable and start filming or you can connect via (NDI license which can be purchased separately) or even a USB to ethernet adapter.

    4. OBSBOT has a remote control for the system too, so you could control all features of the tail air from a distance that way, if your content limits that ability to use hand gestures.

    Those are just the quick good points.

    We use the camera as our main streaming camera. The tail air can integrate with our stream deck allowing us to have quick buttons for different angles of the room, different preset zoom points, and quick AI tracking. Since the tail air has all of these features, we have eliminated all the other cameras from our streaming setup.

    In the OBSBOT App you can control all camera settings, like your ISO, shutter speed, auto focus, white balance, and frame rates. You can even go as far as to apply your temperatures, brightness, contrast, saturation, and sharpness to the video being recorded.

    While the $499 price tag may seem high initially, I can assure you that you will not get this quality of camera, with all these features, for anywhere close to this amount anywhere else.

    I gotta share my thoughts on this Webcam – it's seriously changed the game for my video calls and streaming setup.

    I picked this up as a replacement for an HD camcorder in order to bring my YouTube recording quality to a higher level, since it seemed like a (relatively) inexpensive 4K capable camera, and the added capabilities of features like the gimbal, remote control and tracking seemed like a good fit for a one man show.

    I'm not going to bog this review down with various features and such, since there is a lot of that already. Instead I'm just going to point out that after watching a fair few videos extolling the virtues of the camera, I had a fair bit of skepticism that the reality would match the expectation.

    However, it was a breeze to get up and running, andas a first test in my dimly lit basement office, the recorded footage (despite the low light) looked fantastic. Whatever magic sauce they have put in here to figure a decent set of automatic adjustments is head and shoulders above the cameras I'm used to.

    So, whether you are an amateur or a pro, I would venture that you're probably going to be able to get some amazing quality out of this camera. Well worth the money, thus far.
