This review is for the GameXtrem brand Bluetooth open-ear headphones.
First, I like these a lot. I hate the earbuds that go into the ear canal. These sit outside the ear so ambient sounds are not blocked. I found them a little awkward to put on. It isn’t difficult, but it was not intuitive for me either. A “manual” was included. It is a single piece of paper, roughly legal size, with six languages. There is a section entitled “how to wear headphones”, but the illustrations are useless.
I found the headphones to be super comfortable. The first time I used them, I had them on for hours. I think they work great for audio books and pod casts. For music, I think they are acceptable, but the sound quality is just okay. It is definitely not “premium audio’! If you are picky about audio quality, these are not the headphones for you.
The audio is plenty loud in a normal environment, but I do not think they would be appropriate for noisy environments.
Using them for the first time was straightforward. I paired them with my phone and hit play. They worked the first time without difficulty.
The specification from the product listing and the manual are not consistent with each other. For example, the product listing title says 72 hours of play time. The details in the product listing claims five hours of play time. The manual says four. The product details claimed the product is “water proof”, down in the specifications it says “water resistant”.
The manual claims that the headphones have a “UV Cleaning” mode. The color of the UV light is purple, so it is close to 395 nm. That color of UV light lacks the energy to sterilize. The manual does not have any precautions relative to the UV light. Either the light is so weak that a warning is not needed, or the product is unsafe. It does not inspire confidence in the product or the brand!
These are budget, over-the-ear Bluetooth headphones. Shortcomings aside, I like them. Mostly because they are very comfortable and they don’t block ambient sounds. The quality of the audio leaves a lot to be desired, but that is secondary to me.
