Right in the middle! Halfway between flimsy notebook and classy journal
Right in-between! I'm very familiar with the super-cheap, flimsy spiral notebooks with covers that are only slightly thicker than the paper in the notebook. I also have experience with the fancy, thick-covered ruled-paper journals, though they tend to be smaller than 8.5×11. This item is not a classy journal, but neither is it a flimsy notebook. It has a thicker cover than a normal 8.5×11 notebook, and a thin elastic strap attached to the back cover that can keep the notebook securely closed. The pages are larger than a typical journal, but at 8×10.5, perhaps a bit smaller than a typical school notebook. I've definitely seen better spiral binding, but I've also seen worse. The entire notebook is three-hole punched, and the pages are perforated, so either the entire notebook (for whatever reason) or individual pages could be loaded into a three-ring binder. The color is attractive. In spite of the shrink-wrap and Amazon packaging, however, the attentive viewer will note a couple of slight dings on the back cover in one of my pictures. Those don't bother me a bit — obviously, a notebook will likely get banged around a bit — but does give you an idea of how a bit of knocking about will affect the cover. My pictures show the effect of writing in the notebook. I used the couple of standard pens you can see in the picture, and wrote in my normal print hand, not bearing down as I wrote. The pictures show that the writing is visible through the back of the paper, and that the impression of the writing can be seen on the next page. For something advertised as a "journaling notebook," I would have expected thicker paper; again, though, this is a "right in-between" sort of product. The price seems a bit higher than the value, but just a bit. If the paper were thicker, I'd say the price point would be right where it should be.

    I was actually wanting the bigger one I think A5, however I found a really great use for this smaller one. I love the design and the sturdiness of it. . I highly recommend this purchase as it is all that the company states that they are.

    I bought this notebook to take notes for my french class. It’s simple but cute, and the hardcover makes it more resistant than conventional notebooks in the market.

    I always write with black ballpoint and use markers to highlight titles and other important therms. You can see that there’s some bleed from both the pen and marker, but it’s pretty much what you’d expect out of a regular college rulled notebook, the pages are not usually very thick, which I knew coming in.

    I just needed a notebook good that didn’t become all bent in like a month of use. Plus, the bleed through doesn’t obstruct the contents at all, so it doesn’t bother me.

    It’s not perfect, good for what you’re paying. If you want no bleed at all then you should not be looking at college ruled notebooks, there are others in the market for note-taking that have better quality. The sturdiness was what mattered most to me and that’s what I got.
