Excellent charger with long cable and auto adjust to current

Excellent charger with long cable and auto adjust to current
I got this charger because the one I had was too short for where I needed to use it. I typically charge my PHEV with a Level 1 charger that came with the vehicle but that takes over night. With this great charger, I can plug in to the 220V from my dryer outlet and get Level 2 charging at home. Problem is, my dryer is too far away from the car's charging port to work with shorter cables. That's what makes this charger a great: it has a 25 foot cable. Another great feature is that it adjusts automatically to the volts and amps that are appropriate for the current situation. I've had other chargers that you need to set this manually. This one is really plug and play. In the first photo you can see a picture of the screen that is showing 16A and 220V (well 241 to be exact). I did nothing but plug it in and away it went, charging my car without having to figure out the settings manually. I also included photos of the cable plugged into my car's charging port, one of how the cable spans a good distance, and one of the adapter I used (not included) to make the plugs compatible (in case that helps someone). This charger really shines with its auto-adjust feature and cable length. It has done really well for me. It seems solidly built and should last. It even coils fairly easily–it's pliable rather than stiff. I would highly recommend it for others.

Works perfectly and gives easy to read details about how it's performing directly on the front. Functions the same as the bmw provided plug and is so easy to use.

I got this to keep as a portable charger for my EV, mainly for visits to family and as a backup at home. I already have a fixed charger in the garage, but I wanted something I could throw in the trunk and use anywhere.

I used it at my in-laws’ house using a regular 120V outlet. Charging is slow, as expected with Level 1, but it was enough to add some miles overnight and avoid stopping at a public charger. The 25 ft cable made it easy to reach the car without moving it around.

The charger feels well built. The cable is thick but still flexible, and it coils easily into the included bag. The screen is clear and shows useful info like charging time, amps, and how much power was added. I also like that I can adjust the amperage depending on the outlet.

It’s a bit heavy to let it hang from the outlet, so for home use I make sure it’s supported. For travel, it’s been fine and very convenient.

Overall, this has been reliable and easy to use. It’s a solid option if you want a portable EV charger for trips, guests, or emergency charging. I’m glad I have it.

The only negative I have experienced with this Enerbison EV charger is the lock mechanism on the SAE J1772 connector: it doesn't always release on the first press and sometime the button sticks stays partially up or down. My wife thinks it is getting worse. If it is, I'll come back and lower this review to 2 stars.

The ad says "Smart LED Touch Display". The only touch part are the two buttons: "A" for changing the maximum amps the charger will pull from the outlet, and another button that looks like the hands of a clock and is used to set a number of hours for the charger to count down before being useable.

The ad also says "NEMA 6-20 Plug & 5-15 Adapter". Those are reversed. The plug on the charger is NEMA 5-15P. The included adapter has a receptacle that will take the NEMA 5-15P plug and has a NEMA 6-20 plug on the other end. The NEMA 6-20 plug is needed for connecting to a 240V, 20A outlet/receptacle.

The manual is not clear that going above 12A is only possible if the charger detects 240V power being supplied to the charger.

The Level 1 charger that came with my Toyota RAV4 has one wire that is 12 AWG, two that are 14 AWG, and one 18 AWG. The wires to the J1772 connector on this charger are three 14 AWG and one 18 AWG. I don't know why Toyota included one more capable wire (12 AWG). I have not seen either charger get more than warm.

My Toyota charger has no display and no user settings. I enjoy the display on this charger showing me how much power is being drawn and the temperature of the plug. My car lets me say when to start charging, so I haven't needed that feature of the Enerbison charger.

Being able to limit the amount of amps the charger will pull is great! Decreasing the maximum amount of amps the charger can have increases how long the car takes to charge, but it keeps the charger and chest freezer from popping the shared circuit breaker at my daughter's house. At home, I have the whole 15 amp circuit available to the charger, but the only outlet near enough when visiting my daughter has to be shared with the freezer in the garage.

The extra protections of this charger are a nice upgrade from the Toyota charger. Just wish the Enerbison locking release worked as easily and reliably as the Toyota one!
