Hardwired installation is worth it if you charge every day
When I started looking at home EV chargers, I quickly realized that if you're planning to charge every day, it makes sense to install the highest-capacity charger your electrical setup can support. That's what led me to a hardwired 48A unit instead of a plug-in model. Since this is a 48A hardwired unit, I had it professionally installed. Once it was up and running, I could just plug the car in when I got home, and by the next morning, it was ready to go. The feature I didn't expect to appreciate so much was the 23-foot cable. It gave me far more flexibility with where the charger could be mounted, and I don't have to park in exactly the same spot every time. The included holster also keeps the connector off the ground and the cable neatly wrapped up when it's not in use. The unit itself is solid and well-made. The charging connector fits securely, and after repeated use, there hasn't been any looseness or connection issues. Everything has worked consistently without unexpected interruptions. This charger is compatible with J1772-equipped vehicles, and Tesla owners can also use it with the appropriate adapter. It's clearly designed to live outdoors, so I don't have any concerns about leaving it mounted outside. Overall, it's one of those upgrades that quickly becomes part of everyday life. Once it's installed, charging your EV at home is simply easier, and the long cable makes daily use much more convenient than I expected. Just know it does require a hardwired installation, so factor that into the overall cost.

The device feels very robust and well-constructed. It features a strong, heavy-duty design, and the long charging cable enables easy access to vehicles parked in various positions. We have tested it with multiple electric vehicles, including Teslas using an adapter, and it has performed flawlessly with each one. Charging has consistently been dependable, with no interruptions or connectivity issues.

If I were to voice any concerns, they would mostly be minor. The visual design isn’t my top choice, and it is a little pricier compared to some other Level 2 chargers that offer similar functionalities. However, the outstanding build quality and reliability significantly justify the price. When I began exploring home EV chargers, it became clear that if daily charging was the goal, installing the highest-capacity charger that your electrical system can accommodate is wise. This realization prompted me to opt for a hardwired 48A unit rather than a plug-in version.

Given that this is a 48A hardwired model, I had it professionally set up. Once it was operational, I could easily plug in the car upon arriving home, and by morning, it was fully charged. One feature I didn't anticipate valuing so much was the 23-foot cable. It allowed for much greater flexibility regarding where the charger could be installed, and I don't need to park in the exact same spot on each occasion. The provided holster also keeps the connector off the ground and neatly organizes the cable when it’s not in use.

The device itself is sturdy and well-crafted. The charging connector fits tightly, and after numerous uses, there have been no signs of looseness or connectivity problems. Everything has functioned reliably without any unexpected disruptions. This charger is compatible with vehicles that have the J1772 connector, and Tesla drivers can use it with the proper adapter.

It is clearly built for outdoor use, so I have no worries about leaving it installed outside. Overall, it’s one of those improvements that quickly integrates into daily life. Once set up, charging your electric vehicle at home becomes much simpler, and the lengthy cable provides more convenience than I anticipated. Just keep in mind that it requires a hardwired setup, which should be considered when determining the total expense. This unit is fixed at 48A and cannot be modified through internal switches or software. Due to the National Electrical Code (NEC) 80% continuous-load regulation, it needs to be installed on a dedicated 60A breaker with suitably sized heavy-gauge wire, typically 6 AWG or thicker, depending on the installation. If your electrical panel can only accommodate a 50A breaker, this charger cannot be used, as it cannot be adjusted to draw only 40A. There is no companion app, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi capabilities. You won't be able to monitor energy usage, schedule charging times, or access real-time statistics on your mobile device through the charger. If you want to charge during off-peak utility rates, you will need to depend entirely on your vehicle's built-in charging timer.

Solid, Safe, and Dependable Level 2 Charger That Just Works

This charger hits a really nice balance between performance, safety, and ease of use. After putting it into regular rotation, it’s clear this is a no-nonsense Level 2 unit that delivers exactly what most EV owners need without overcomplicating things.

Charging performance is strong and consistent. The 40A output provides a significant upgrade over Level 1 charging, easily replenishing range overnight. Plug it in after a long day, and by morning the car is ready to go, no planning around public chargers anymore.

One of the biggest advantages here is the UL2594 certification (ETL listed). That’s not just marketing, it means the charger meets recognized safety standards for electrical performance and build quality. If you’re installing something in your garage pulling this kind of power, that peace of mind matters.

The NEMA 14-50 plug-in setup makes installation simple. If you already have a 240V outlet, it’s basically plug-and-play. No complicated wiring, no technician required for most setups. It’s also easy to unplug and take with you if needed, which adds flexibility.

Portability is better than you might expect for a Level 2 charger. While it’s not “small,” it’s manageable in terms of weight and size. You can move it between locations or bring it along for trips without much hassle. It’s a practical option if you split time between homes or want a reliable backup charger.

The 23 ft cable is a sweet spot, long enough to reach across a garage or driveway without being overly bulky. It’s thick and durable but still flexible enough to coil up easily when not in use.

Build quality feels robust. The housing is solid, the connector fits securely, and the included charger holder is a nice touch for keeping everything organized and off the ground. It helps maintain a clean setup and protects the connector when not in use.

Compatibility is exactly what you’d expect from a J1772 charger, it works seamlessly with virtually all non-Tesla EVs. Tesla owners can still use it with the standard adapter, so it’s flexible for mixed-vehicle households.

Another thing worth noting is reliability. No random disconnects, no glitch, it just consistently starts charging as soon as it’s plugged in. That kind of dependability is what you actually want in a daily-use charger.

If there’s one minor consideration, it’s that this unit focuses on core functionality rather than smart features. There’s no app or advanced scheduling built in, but honestly, many people prefer that simplicity, especially if their vehicle already handles scheduling.

Overall, this is a well-built, safety-certified, and highly reliable Level 2 charger. It delivers fast charging, straightforward setup, solid portability, and durable construction without unnecessary extras. If you want something dependable that you can plug in and trust every day, this is a strong choice.

Lectron is constantly showing up in 'best of' lists of EV chargers and with good reason. They make durable and functional charging devices that offer plenty of features without overly complicating things with gimmicks. I've always preferred hardwired EV chargers for a number of reasons. Among other things, they just seem more stable and get the job done better.

The design doesn't exactly break new ground–you've got a LED light on the housing that gives you info about the charging process and error messages. As for controls, there really aren't any–it's a 'plug and charge' situation where you just plug it into your vehicle and it goes to work. I enjoy smartphone apps, RFID cards, etc. as much as anyone but for most use cases they just complicate the process. The charger works perfectly with any J1772 EV and can charge NACS/Tesla vehicles with the right adapter. That means no compatibility problems regardless of your EV brand/model.

It has all of the built in protections that you find in any EV charger from a top quality manufacturer. This includes overheating protection, over voltage protection, under voltage protection, short circuit protection, etc. It has a IP66 waterproof/dustproof rating. It can handle just about every weather and related situation that you're likely to face. This charger also has a 23 foot charging cable. This is a somewhat strange length with many Level 2 chargers offering 25 feet but in reality is probably sufficient for most needs. If not, an extension cable is an option. Assuming you don't have an issue with the somewhat spartan interface it's a quality charger that is extremely easy to use. Highly recommended!

Solid, No-Frills 48A Charger—Just Make Sure Your Electrical Panel is Ready

If you are looking for a straightforward, high-powered EVSE, this 48A hard-wired charger is a solid option. It focuses entirely on doing one job well: delivering maximum Level 2 power safely and reliably.

    Installation & Build Quality
The physical installation is straightforward. The housing is sturdy, and mounting it to the wall takes very little time. The long charging cable gives you plenty of flexibility to reach your vehicle's charging port, whether you pull into the garage nose-first or back in. The J1772 handle fits securely into multiple EV models and clicks into place perfectly. The IP66 rating is nice to have for water resistance, even though my installation was in a garage.

    Performance
Charging is completely seamless. There is no toggling with settings or waiting for a network connection to initialize. You simply plug it in, and the car pulls what it needs up to 48 amps.

    Important Considerations (The Downsides)
While the hardware itself is excellent, there are two major limitations you need to keep in mind before purchasing:

Fixed Amperage (No Internal Derating): This unit is locked at 48A and cannot be adjusted via internal dip switches or software. Because of the National Electrical Code (NEC) 80% continuous-load rule, you must install this on a dedicated 60A breaker using appropriately sized heavy-gauge wire (typically 6 AWG or thicker depending on the run). If your electrical panel only has room for a 50A breaker, you cannot use this charger, as it cannot be derated to pull 40A.

No Smart Features or App: There is no companion app, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi connectivity. You cannot track energy usage metrics, set charging schedules, or view real-time statistics on your phone through the charger itself. If you want to charge during off-peak utility hours, you will need to rely entirely on your vehicle's built-in charging timer.

    Final Verdict
This is a robust, heavy-duty "dumb" charger that delivers excellent 11.5 kW charging performance. If your electrical panel can handle a 60A breaker and you prefer a plug-and-play experience over smart-app features, this is a highly reliable workhorse. Just verify your home's electrical capacity before buying.

Installation was straightforward, and the instructions were clear enough that the process went smoothly. Once mounted and wired, the charger was ready to go without any issues.

The unit feels very solid and well built. It has a durable, heavy-duty construction, and the long charging cable makes it easy to reach vehicles in different parking positions. We've tested it with several different EVs (including Teslas with an adapter), and it's worked perfectly with every one. Charging has been reliable every time, with no connection or charging interruptions.

If I had any criticisms, they're mostly minor. The design isn't my favorite from a visual standpoint, and it's priced a bit higher than some competing Level 2 chargers with similar features. That said, the build quality and reliability have been excellent, which goes a long way toward justifying the cost.

Overall, if you're looking for a dependable hardwired Level 2 charger that simply works, this is a solid choice. It's performed exactly as expected, and I have no complaints about its day-to-day operation.

Installing the charger wasn’t too complicated. Super long cable, can charge two cars in a garage even if mounted towards one side. I had the installation done by a professional since you need a different setup. It is not those ones you just plug into the laundry outlet. The charging device comes in a solid, weather-resistant box for outdoor use if needed.

Now I can fully charge my electric car overnight, at around 40 miles per hour. Moreover, the device does not make noise whilst operating. What I like about the unit is that it is very sleek. No frills design, just works. In general, the charging device seems to be reliable; however, only time will show how durable it is.

    Advantages:
    – Trouble-free installation.
    – The long cable.
    – Weatherproof shell made of reliable materials.
    – Fully certified and compliant with all the safety standards.

    Disadvantages:
    – Hardly any disadvantages can be noted.
