All I needed was 2 ports, but this ICZI Hub was the cheapest that I could find with USB 3.0. So 4 ports was a bonus.
Nowhere in the specification could I find any mention of whether it can simultaneously tranfer data. So I expected the worst: that one must flick a switch to the port that one wanted to use or that it switches automatically to the first port that needed to communicate regardless of what any of the other ports are doing. I took the risk of buying it; my hard drive was backing up my computer and my printer was printing at the same time. It does support simultaneous data transfer.
Since I wanted to connect my printer and hard drive to my AirPort Extreme so that my family’s computers can print and back up wirelessly, I was expecting that I will need to setup my AirPort Extreme to recognize the hard drive through a usb hub like I read somewhere online. The ICZI Hub surprises me by working perfectly and immediately. It behaved like a part of my AirPort Extreme as if my AirPort Extreme had 4 ports all along. Was there a recent firmware update on my AirPort Extreme that made the setup unnecessary? Did the ICZI Hub fool my AirPort Extreme into thinking that it had 4 ports? Whatever was the case, I couldn’t be happier.
