This is essentially a fancy Android tablet, with a stylus pen and an improved "nano-etched" screen which eliminates reflective glare for comfortable viewing even at different angles while using it as a drawing pad. Although not full IPS, I found the image bright and clear even at somewhat sideways angles and had no trouble drawing even when not facing it head-on. At 1920×1200 HD resolution this definitely looks good, and the sharp pixel contrast made even brush-style strokes look really fine in my sketches. The 90Hz refresh rate is very fluid, not quite as much as 120Hz like you might have on a high-end phone, but still very good. The included stylus was responsive and easy to work with, and does come with a few extra plastic nibs, but remember to charge it first- it has a battery inside as well and the pen doesn't work with touch alone. The included artist's glove to prevent smudging the screen was comfortable and worked great, just be aware that it is really made for those who are right-handed, it doesn't fit on the left hand quite right.
There are a fair amount of included drawing apps (ibisPaint X, Clip Studio, and HiPaint), and they are pretty good, but many of the extra brush options are locked behind paywalls and the mainstream drawing software I normally use (Krita, Blender) can't be used on here since it doesn't come in Android app versions. Compared to a full Windows or Mac-based drawing tablet I do feel like being limited to Android "apps" versus full software is frustrating, but this is more of a travel model than one intended to replace your main studio drawing pad, and it does great for sketches on the go.
The tablet's folding case also doubles as a kickstand, and it is adequate, but only for streaming media- if you try to use the stylus against it while standing the kickstand will just collapse under even a little pressure. For actually using this to draw you'll need to hold it, lie it flat or just use a higher, more rugged stand like one made for a laptop, so you don't have to keep your neck bent down so far looking at the screen sitting at desk-height level. Using a folding adjustable laptop stand I had in spare to actually lift this up when in use made drawing a lot more comfortable than relying on the stand it comes with alone.
The tablet itself is very responsive, it never froze up or crashed even when drawing very detailed 4k images, and the battery life was excellent, I used it at full brightness for over four hours and the battery was still just over 53% full, so it will certainly do for a typical day of on and off use as inspiration finds you.
As a tablet this did fine for the usual things like checking email, streaming videos and music as well as 2D-games. The graphics processor was capable of any 2D-task I threw at it handily, but it is not a 3D-oriented "gaming" device and you shouldn't expect it to do much in that space. I did quite enjoy the feeling of versatility, switching between drawing and tablet use easily on the same device. The included case has a holder for the stylus pen, so this is pretty smooth feeling to switch between drawing and web browsing or media streaming as desired without skipping a beat.
The built in camera is a little bit disappointing, though, at just 13MP for the rear lens images are only "good"- I would have loved something with at least 20MP or more, since taking pictures of interesting scenery to refer to later while sketching it is one of the coolest things to use this for. I wouldn't say the pictures this takes are bad at all, just not really "superb".
Having had this for a month now, some of my initial misgivings are still there, but overall my enjoyment of it has grown steadily. There was some initial frustration being limited to "apps" only for software, and the paywall for expanded brush options behind most of the drawing software this came with or that I could find was irksome, but this really does respond to the stylus fluidly, without skips or lag, and I did end up enjoying drawing on here quite a lot once I got used to it. The real strength here is versatility, this is both a decent portable drawing pad and an excellent tablet, covering pretty much everything you need without the awkward bulk of carrying around a laptop. The built in camera is just okay, but it is still a very convenient way to save reference material for later when it's easy to refer to. No, this won't replace your main drawing pad in your studio, but for sketching on the go, it actually surprised me with how easy and convenient it was to work with, and in the end I'm glad I chose it.
