I want to say that this is by far the best camera of this kind I've used. I'm always on the hunt for a not good – but great – webcams that'll not break the bank and give me control and options.
This does that – but it does it in what I'd call "raw" fashion. There is no super tweaked "AI" in the background trying to make you look better than you do. In fact, this gives it to you real… and in astonishing detail for a webcam.
As with most of these kind of cameras (if you've hunted a bit you know what I'm saying – these ain't no basic Logitech webcam) the color is more heavy on the saturation and therefore those of you pasty white like me look more rosy than normal. All flaws are there in high detail and vivid living color. But, that's kind of the point – this is a multi-purpose camera that is all about detail, resolution, and what really makes it shine…. manual control.
Don't buy this if you don't intent to mess with all three: zoom, aperture, and focus. This is like having a manual focus SLR plugged in to your computer, and I love that. I just love that I can set it just how I want for a very specific thing, and don't have to worry about it "hunting" to focus or adjust light constantly. Using multiple programs as the back end (including OBS Studio) to control some of the output, you have a seriously powerful tool in your hands for a very good price. There simply isn't much out there like this, particularly for such a fair price in my opinion.
No, it's no Nikon, Sony, or Canon mirror-less camera quality for such a price, but seriously, it blows away most any "webcam" of similar price for its quality and in particular flexibility of use. Again, DO NOT buy this thinking you are replacing your highly artificially tuned webcam because you want "4K" resolution. If it's only a persons face you need this for, get one of many out there that are highly rated and tuned just for making you look better than you do. Get this for your specific needs – like constant focus on your sketching from above, or your whiteboard for brainstorming, or any other number of use cases where precise control is needed over zoom, aperture, and focus.
It's heavy, has a lot of glass in the lens, and is just a clunky hunk of awesomeness. Even the USB cable is long and thick and nice. It has two1/4 inch threaded female ports for standard tripod connections, too. It's Plug and play in Windows and Linux (and I assume that fruity operating system too). I highly recommend.
