Third-party ONVIF cams worked, up to 16 total. Works without Internet.
I got this security system to upgrade my current setup with a few IP cameras recording internally. Camera picture is clear, with good night time options. I was pleased that this supports recording my existing third-party IP cameras. Included cameras are fairly capable, with decent AI detection and notifications. Being able to point them remotely is good when checking something out live. Setup was quite simple in terms of what to plug in, and was simplified by it supporting cameras already connected to the existing local network instead of having to plug them into the back of the NVR. NVR interface on TV is a little clunky, but most things can be done on app. I like that this supports a local-only mode, so that inside cameras can be truly private. Playback works pretty well. Timeline shows different colors for events. NVR can play back multiple cameras at once (app only shows one camera at a time). Detection has many options, though no sensitivity control. Pet detection disables human detection unfortunately. App notifications come within a few seconds, and have a button to jump into playback at point they occurred (cooldown time can be set from 1 minute up, good to avoid repeated notifications for activity). Continuous and event recording can be scheduled for the week on an hourly block basis. NVR can copy video to USB stick, and app supports downloading. Cameras have a good image day and night. IR night vision has good illumination. Color night vision keeps spotlights on constantly (no way to lower brightness or have light off for "starlight" color). Can switch to color spotlights only on motion. They support standard 12V power in addition to PoE. Some camera options (like flipping image) required adding camera itself to app. Cameras didn't have any internal web configuration page and didn't support RTSP streaming. App works decently. Many things can be configured with app, though some require NVR. System and cameras can be accessed remotely when away from home. Events can be viewed in a list, or on a timeline. There is no mothly fee for using the app, since everything is stored on NVR locally. Multiple devices can be logged into app at once. NVR is compact and simple to connect. Supports up to 4K HDMI output, great on a big TV (can show 16, 9, and 4 cameras live in multi mode). Mouse is quite sensitive though it worked fine with my own wireless mouse when I set DPI lower. UI is fairly clunky, but usable and decent for selecting cameras and playing back. Everything can be configured with NVR (no app required). Uses a good name-brand surveillance HDD. It's pretty quiet, with a variable-speed fan that runs very low most of the time, with NO whine, just quiet fan noise. NVR draws 9W idle, with +3W for each camera (in daytime). NVR does not appear to have any web-accessible interface. Setup was pretty smooth. I plugged in some cameras and the NVR had them added automatically once it booted. Camera connectors and NVR have flashing lights to confirm connection, useful for debugging problems. The Loocam app connected easily. I had some issues getting notifications working, fixed by removing and re-adding NVR. I notice app hasn't been updated in years. Ethernet cables are CCA, so should be bent as little as possible due to aluminum wire inside. Windows client is pretty basic, and a little unclear to use. It can show selected cameras live. Playback is clunky, with only one camera at a time. No event list or notifications. Window can either be fairly small on screen, or full-screen; it's not otherwise resizable. It doesn't support configuring system, just live and playback. It does work local-only. Highlights: + NVR supports up to 16 cameras. 8 Ethernet ports on back, and cameras can be connected on local network or with a switch. + NVR can operate entirely local-only, without Internet connection. App also supports local-only mode that doesn't require Internet. + NVR works with third-party ONVIF cameras (H.265 & H.264), though they are limited to continuous recording with no events. RTSP cameras not supported. + Cameras can be plugged in anywhere in local network, not just into back of NVR. Issues: – Sound was choppy when listening over HDMI (plays fine everywhere else: headphone out, through app, and downloading recordings). – App keeps phone from sleeping automatically, even when in background. I had my battery drained one time due to this. – No automatic panning that I can find, just object tracking.

It took some time to carefully route the cables, and to wire each camera took more time than if it was a wireless system, but once everything was hooked up together, the system felt solid. The package came with a hard drive that was a Seagate model and recorded about one week's worth of footage from each of the four cameras recording continuously. The AI motion detection did a decent job filtering out shadows, and ignored movement of random pets outside, which helped reduce false alerts. You still have to manually adjust it to get to no false alerts. The night vision is pretty good, and you can see the details pretty well.

This is a good set of security cameras that cane be used outside or inside. . There are 4 cameras, and each one comes with its own
cable. Unfortunately setting them up took a lot of time. It took me over 3 and a half hours just to route the cables throughout the house. The rest of the setup went easy. The quality of the cameras and the picture are very goodThe quality of the cameras are great. The pictures are it's crisp and clear. And the 2 way audio, it's nice and clear, also. I really like the fact that I can use these and not have to have internet. I am completely satisfied with these security cameras

They are not 4k. Zoom on them is pointless. It just makes everything pixellated. The dvr playback is super wonky. PTZ works fine I guess. Better than my old system but they definitely cut some corners.

I have tested and used a LOT of different security systems, and one thing I find quite often among "lesser brands" is many manufacturers put really questionable hard drives in their systems. I've seen 15-year-old non-NVR specific hard drives in brand new security systems, which is a disaster waiting to happen. So, the first thing I do when I'm looking at a new security system, is open it up and see what's inside.

By golly, I'm pleased as punch to report that the hard drive that comes in this security system is not only a new hard drive (not some ancient out-of-warranty dinosaur they picked up on the cheap), but it's an actual Seagate Skyhawk 2TB hard drive, which is one of the best NVR hard drives you can get.

Also poking around inside, I saw that it is, indeed, fan cooled, and as a matter of fact the little fan inside is blowing right on the hard drive, which should equate to a very good lifespan. Very nice!

The rest is all standard fare for a security system like this. It has a decent app, the pan and tilt cameras have good image quality (no physical zoom, though), and you can browse the cameras via the app, the on-screen display (via the TV), or via a PC on the network. Setup is pretty involved, because you'll be running PoE / network cables all over the place, so definitely factor that into your installation – it does take quite a bit of time to get everything set up. I think I invested about 3 hours getting everything ran (maybe a bit more). Hiring a pro to install it if you're uncomfortable wouldn't be a waste here.

For right around $400 bucks, this is actually a really good value considering you get pan/tilt cameras and an NVR with an actual Seagate Skyhawk hard drive. I don't really have much to complain about, except maybe missing cameras with a zoom function. Can't have everything, and at this price I don't expect to, but I am happy with what it does bring to the party. 5 stars.

I installed this camera system hoping to catch whoever’s been leaving mystery footprints across my driveway. Instead, I got full HD coverage of my neighbor borrowing my hose, my cat staring into the void, and the UPS driver chucking my package like a football. All in color—even at night. Setup wasn’t too bad, although running the PoE cables took a bit longer than I thought. If you're not a fan of crawling through attics or trenching through walls, maybe bribe a friend with pizza or hire someone. That said, the plug-and-play setup actually worked once the wires were in—no mysterious blinking lights or tech headaches.

The cameras themselves are super responsive, and the pan/tilt feature is a fun bonus. I might’ve spent a little too much time watching squirrels run laps across my backyard. The AI detection is decent—my phone doesn’t blow up with false alerts anymore unless a particularly sassy cat walks by. The app could use a bit of a refresh (feels like it's been stuck in 2017), but it gets the job done. Also shoutout to the NVR having a legit Seagate Skyhawk drive—that’s nerd-speak for “this thing’s built to last.” No complaints from me.

If you want solid coverage, clean footage, and the ability to yell at people through your phone like a futuristic intercom system, this kit’s worth it. Just don't expect to stay anonymous—everyone in my house now waves at the cameras like it's their own sitcom.

I've never experienced the Loocam brand before so I went in blind to this system. The cameras themselves are very large so they will be noticeable to anyone lurking around. They are very lightweight which kind of comes off cheap feeling in some ways but also makes the install on them much easier as it's not a chore to hold up nor does it add a lot of drag on whatever you are hanging them on. The system boots up easily and fast, with the internal 2TB drive being a massive great touch, I only wish it were a solid state to help speed things up a little more when retrieving or saving any footage. The software works well as does the controls with pan & tilt having a wide range.
