The Dreame L40s Ultra CE vac/mop robot has been a game changer in our household cleaning task. This little guy works well for routine maintenance cleaning purposes and helps keep our house with 2 toddlers and a golden retriever much cleaner on a day-to-day basis than it used to be! It won't fully replace the need for a proper vacuum and mop in my opinion but it can significantly stretch the times between needing to using larger cleaning tools if run regularly. As long as you have realistic expectations about what this robot can and cannot do, I don't think you'll be disappointed in it's performance.
Here are what the L40s Ultra CE does really well:
– Vacuuming of dirt/dust/and smallish debris particles
– Mapping of the house (for the most part)
– Obstacle avoidance
– No tangles at all on the brush roller after ~100 hours of total runtime on it in the 5 months since getting it
– Programable schedule and cleaning customization options within the app
Here are some areas where the L40s Ultra CE isn't the best at:
– Mopping performance for anything dried/sticky. This thing is only using plain water to mop the floors and honestly it's not great at mopping unless it is a liquid spill or lifting light dust/dirt off the ground. This will not replace a proper mop at all in my opinion. I've tested using our Dreame H12 Pro vac mop (filled with hot water and cleaning solution) on our tile floors immediately after the L40s Ultra CE had run the night before and was quite shocked at how much dirt the H12 Pro still picked up off the floor. Add to this the fact that the base station only cleans the mop pads with water as well (detergent compartment not included with this model) leaves the overall mopping performance of the L40s Ultra CE less than desirable in my opinion.
– Mapping of the house has some quirks and you will likely need to manually edit the map to get things working right. Our house has a large double slider glass door and the unit thought that the 10' span of glass down to the floor was a passable threshold and that our outside patio was part of the inside of the house. I had to manually edit the map to make this window wall an impassible threshold.
– Carpet/rug detection works OK on larger area rugs but seems to struggle with small rugs like doormats.
– Edge cleaning of this L40s Ultra CE unit is inferior to higher end Dreame models which feature the extendable sweeper arm and mopping pad to brush right along the baseboard of the room.
– Cleaning speed. I highly recommend running this at night when you sleep or during the day while you're gone because it does take quite awhile to run depending on the size of your space. There are settings you could use to speed up the process, but I would rather have it take it's time for a more thorough cleaning job. We have it setup to clean a ~1200 sq ft area and we typically run it to vacuum first and then go back and mop. This takes 4-6 hours. If we have it set to the "Deep Clean" setting, this will take nearly 8 hours and the robot has to go back to the base and recharge it's batteries during the cleaning process because it can't finish the job on a single charge.
So overall this is a pretty capable robot vac/mop that will definitely keep your life cleaner than it was before. I think it is a good budget oriented option to explore if you are looking for a unit with a lot of smart features but not necessarily the best of the best performance.
