Excellent first experience with robot vacuum

Excellent first experience with robot vacuum
It's the first time we use a robot vacuum, so I wasn't sure what to expect, having heard friends complain about the shortcomings of theirs over the years. All I can say is… why did we wait this long!? We have hardwoods throughout our main floor, and a small chihuahua who sheds SO. MUCH. We normally vacuum thoroughly once a week, but now with this vacuum I run it 2-3 times a week and it does such an amazing job of managing dust, hair, and quite frankly, my sanity! By the time I set out to do a thorough vacuuming job on the weekend (moving furniture, etc), it's light work. I was impressed by the mapping ability. I have a Dreame pool vacuum (also an impressive machine!) and the mapping function is not so accurate on that device… however this is completely different and mapped our main floor accurately, making it easy to create tasks for specific rooms. I prefer to break up the rooms/tasks and have the robot self-empty in between so the onboard dust bin doesn't get too full and gives it a chance to charge. I will say the dust bag fills up fast so I make sure to stock up on spares (came with one bag). And I'm not really using the mop pad function, because it's just a damp pad that drags around the house, it's more of a dusting function, not a deep clean like a true mopping, but again for a small space like a kitchen it's handy in between thorough cleanings. Lastly, one thing I hadn't considered before ordering is that the base station needs a certain amount of free space on the sides and in front for the robot to dock itself. I didn't want this to be stationed in the kitchen, family room or dining room… We settled for the office and had to clear some space. Just have that in mind as you consider this purchase, depending on where you'll want this to "live" and remember there needs to be a power outlet in the spot you choose. Highly recommend this machine, really lightens the load of house chores.

Okay so this took me a while to set up. The app and everything was really complicated. It has an easy start guide which I appreciate and what's informative. But it just took longer than I thought it would and longer than other vacuums have in the past. I'm not a fan of having to use the app as a remote I wish it came with a remote. I also don't think the floor washing is that effective. It's more of a vacuum. But it does have a compartment to put water on and one mop pad. I was also disappointed it didn't come with more replacements other vacuums I have gotten have come with extras and this didn't I came like one extra.

That said once it's set up it does work well and better than other vacuums I've had. It can get over rugs easily. Doesn't get trapped as much. And does a pretty good job picking things up. It also finds its way back to the docking easily without help.

I think you can use the vacuum without setting up the app but you won't be able to control it or have it map things out. I think it really depends on how smart you want your vacuum to be. For me personally I don't know what the value for the money is quite worth it It's a pretty good quality vacuum but I feel like you can get a more simple vacuum for a better value for the money. But overall the vacuum works well I am happy with it now. I think for the value and the price it should have come with more replacements And I feel like you could get one that is truly more of a mop as well.

The DREAME D20 Plus Robot has been a huge game-changer for my family. We have multiple models from DREAME, and this is one of the more simplistic models to use. It features auto-emptying for dust so you never have to worry about emptying the trash before it can clean again.

We have this set up in an area with a mix of carpet and hardwood. For context, I have a dog that sheds frequently, and this robot is powerful enough to get all the fur and dust particles. The functionality is not matched by any regular robot. On the app, you can set which "zones" you want the robot to mop or vacuum. It was easy to figure out, and we customized the path to include mopping on hardwood surfaces.

The charging station/disposal is not overly big and fits in most locations; you can even put it under a table if you would like. The robot has more than enough charge to clean 4 bedrooms and the hallway without the need to go back and charge. The robot is quite intelligent, and when it gets full, it disposes of the dust and then resumes cleaning. The sensors prevent the robot from getting stuck and can identify ledges and not go off.

Another important feature that is worth mentioning is that you can remotely control where the robot cleans. For example, if you made a spill, you can go onto the app and have it clean a specific location by mapping the robot to it. Honestly, I was surprised by how many features the robot had for the price. We also own the newer model, which is more pricey, but the robot seems to do just as good a job as the newer models.

In conclusion, if you are wondering whether you should invest in a robot vacuum. I would say that DREAME doesn't disappoint, and I would highly recommend getting one that auto-disposes of the trash. It is extremely useful and saves my family lots of time.

    Giving this a try upstairs

Reviewed in Canada on September 13, 2025

Size: D20PlusColor: WhiteAmazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What’s this? )

I admit to being a big fan of Dreame products – to me, the brand represents innovation, form and function. I’ve had the opportunity to try a hair styling tool, a stick vacuum as well as a robot vacuum (with mopping function) from this brand. I’ve been highly satisfied with each of these and they get used regularly in my house.

So why do I need another robot vacuum? Because I live in a multi-storey house, and one thing they can’t do yet is navigate stairs! This one gets used on one of the upper level of the house with bedrooms that have some rugs and hardwood floors, and a bathroom (with tiles). It’s the second time I’m putting a robot vacuum upstairs – I’ve actually ruined another robot vacuum (not this brand) a couple of years ago because it tumbled down the stairs and I’ve not tried again since. Until now.

My experience with another Dreame robot vacuum and the Dreame app is that it is one of the better mapping systems out there (compared to another brand I’ve used). I’ve set a digital barrier as well as no-go zone to prevent it from falling down the stairs. I hope these along with drop sensors will keep this one from falling like my old non-Dreame robot vacuum.

    The positives:
    – Overall, this is a powerful vacuum, since I have long hair which tends to accumulate on the rugs. The roller does a decent job at preventing tangles, although I did remove some hair when I turned it over.
    – The self-emptying feature eliminates one of the things I truly dislike about stick vacuums – emptying a container of dust is truly such a mess! With this robot vacuum, it’s something I don’t have to worry about.
    – And battery life appears to be holding well.

    The not-so-positives:
    – While it’s able to navigate between carpet and hardwood, the biggest challenge with the D20 Plus is its struggle with the threshold between the hallway and the bathroom, unlike a higher-end model that I have that can climb a few centimeters.
    – The robot vacuum has a fairly high profile, so I find that it does not fit under some of the dressers in the bedrooms.
    – You still have to vacuum some nooks and crannies that the vacuum doesn't reach, but less often since there's less dust around overall.
    – Finally, the overall size of the base is also fairly large, so it is difficult to find a discrete place to park this.

I’ve not used the mopping function yet, but this will be great for the bathroom. I'm hopeful and putting my trust in the Dreame mapping function and drop sensors to be able to put a robot vacuum upstairs in my house again!

    Excellent Robot Vacuum

Reviewed in Canada on September 6, 2025

Size: D20PlusColor: WhiteAmazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What’s this? )

The Dreame D20 Plus is my first-ever robot vacuum, and so far, I’m really impressed. The suction power seems good; it claims to be 13,000Pa I’m not sure how I could test that, but it seems comparable to my branded cordless vacuum cleaner. It picks up pet hair, dust, and small debris effortlessly from both my tile floors and carpets. The DuoBrush design seems to help prevent tangling, which is a huge plus as carpets seem to attract hair.

The self-emptying feature is great, and it has worked well enough the few times it's been used. With the 5L dust bag, I don’t have to empty it too often, which makes daily cleaning feel truly hands-free. The mapping system is not perfect, but still relatively accurate, and the app control is intuitive. I have not tried voice commands through Alexa, so I can’t comment on that function.

My main gripes are that it can struggle with tight corners, low furniture, and getting around multi-point or legged objects, like table chairs. It’s not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind if you have a lot of tricky spots. Battery life is solid, and it finishes a full clean on one charge for my approximately 850 square foot kitchen and living room area.

It's not as simple as using your cordless vacuum at first; you initially need to set it up this one. It's not overly difficult, but it takes some time, and you need to follow the instructions; you can’t just wing it. It is also best to do a walkthrough of the area to be cleaned and pick up objects and organize them in a way that will be most convenient for the vacuum to move around the entire mapped area.

Overall, it’s a smart, powerful vacuum that makes cleaning easier. The build quality is great. I have not had any issues, but I have only had it for a few weeks. Just a few small tweaks and it would be perfect.

    Vraiment génial, mais pas magique

Reviewed in Canada on September 3, 2025

Size: D20PlusColor: WhiteAmazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What’s this? )

Review of the Dreame D20 Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum and Mop (2 Weeks of Use)

Reviewed in Canada on September 8, 2025

Size: D20PlusColor: WhiteAmazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What’s this? )

I’ve been using the Dreame D20 for about two weeks now, and overall, I’m quite impressed with its performance. The mapping technology is excellent and it's smart enough to navigate my space without getting stuck long-term. However, it does have some trouble getting up rises in both my kitchen and bathroom, which are both quite high, which can be a little frustrating at times to hear it attempting to climb it for the umpteenth time but with that said, I was able to map the unit to avoid sending it under my TV unit, where a tangle of wires had the potential to cause issues (though, to be honest, I should probably organize those cables anyway).

When it comes to cleaning, the Dreame does a great job handling crumbs and small debris. However, it does struggle with items like cellophane and socks, which tend to get caught and require me to flip the vacuum over and manually remove them. This seems to be the Achilles' heel of the unit and others I have owned. However, other small bits of trash are no problem, but soft materials like socks and lightweight plastics can throw it off track.
The self-emptying feature is fantastic. The dustbin is large enough that I haven't had to empty it after daily use. According to the manufacturer, it should last up to 130 days between empties, but I suspect I’ll still give it a quick clean every month just to stay on top of things. I’m really happy with the convenience of this feature.

As for the mopping function, I don’t use it. I already have a wet vac that I clean with weekly, so I can’t speak to how well the mopping feature works. That being said, I prefer to focus on vacuuming, and the Dreame excels at that.
When compared to the Shark Ultra Vac, which I’ve also used, the Dreame D20 stands out. While both are similar in overall performance, the Dreame has a larger dustbin and superior mapping technology. The Shark model doesn’t have the mopping feature, and its smaller bin means I have to empty it more often, especially in a household as active as mine, where dust and crumbs accumulate quickly. In that sense, the Dreame is a much better fit for my needs.

The Dreame D20 is an excellent robot vacuum and mop, offering great value for its price. If you're looking for a reliable, self-emptying vacuum with solid mapping and performance, this is a fantastic option.

This is one hell of a vacuum. It sucks a lot of dirt with its powerful suction that handles everything from cookie crumbs to dust bunnies. My favourite part has got to be the self emptying feature, where the robot dumps everything into a big 5L bag at its base station. There's no need for daily emptying of tiny dustbins. Sadly, the robot can't fit under my low sofa, but it cleans everywhere else, even navigating the narrow pathways.

The mopping feature works well for my place, keeping floors fresh between deep cleans. I can adjust the wetness through the app, using more water for like kitchen spills and less for my living room floor. Having to clear clutter from pathways before running the robot has made me a tidier person (so, thank you!), since I now regularly pick up items from the floor. The mapping system remembers my apartment layout after the first run and I find it still moves around efficiently despite the limited space. Even for a small space, this robot has simplified cleaning more than I expected.
