1st gen 2003 Toyota Tacoma

1st gen 2003 Toyota Tacoma
What an awesome upgrade to my 1st gen 2003 Toyota Tacoma! Install was straight forward. Prewired it with the scoche wire harness for Toyota, and it worked first try. No trim kit necessary for the 1st gen Tacoma. I had to bend the centering tabs on the stock side mounts before I could mount them to the new unit, but super easy with a pair of needle nose pliers. It’ll make sense once you see it. Functions great! Hooks up to my phone within 10 seconds of turning on the truck. Responsive touch screen (make sure you peel off the protective film). This unit doesn’t have separate WiFi and gos antennas, so that makes installation a breeze. I didn’t install the reverse camera. I’m sure it would work as it should, but I didn’t want it bad enough to cut into my factory reverse wires. Look up radio install videos on YouTube specific to your vehicle to get started.

I recently installed the Kissound Double Din Radio in my 2000 4Runner, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The installation process was surprisingly easy.

The radio works great and has exceeded my expectations. The touchscreen is responsive, the display is bright and easy to read, and all the features function smoothly. Bluetooth connectivity / CarPlay pairs quickly with my phone, and the sound quality is excellent. Calls are clear, and streaming music is seamless.

Overall, this is a fantastic double din radio for the price. If you're looking for an affordable unit with easy installation, reliable performance, and great features, I highly recommend the Kissound Double Din Radio.

    Fantastic Stereo!

This stereo absolutely exceeded my expectations for the price. For under $100, you get a feature-packed double DIN unit with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, FM/AM radio, subwoofer output, and even the option to customize the startup logo to display your vehicle brand. It's a really nice touch that makes it feel more high-end.

The installation on my 2015 GMC Sierra was surprisingly straightforward. All I needed was a wiring harness and a dash kit (purchased separately), and the setup went smoothly. The included instructions and labeled wiring made the process easy to follow, and within a short time, the unit was installed and working perfectly. Additionally, the backup camera works well and displays a very clear image.

Functionality is excellent. The Android Auto connects quickly, the touchscreen is responsive, and the sound output is solid with clear audio and strong volume. The backup camera integration also works as expected.

What really impressed me was the bang for the buck. For this price point, it’s hard to find a stereo with this many features that performs so well. On top of that, the company provides excellent customer support. I emailed them with a couple of questions, and they responded quickly, which gave me even more confidence in my purchase.

Overall, this is a fantastic stereo if you want to modernize your vehicle without breaking the bank. Highly recommended!

Full featured radios with good sound quality at a price point much cheaper than name brands.

For the price you're getting a lot of features. This radio is equivalent to a 300ish dollar Pioneer radio in all of the features, responsiveness, performance, etc… I bought it for my 2003 Avalanche to replace the factory head unit. I wanted a radio with a rotary encoder (knob) so I could easily control volume, mute, power. The knob on mine feels high quality and works great. The responsiveness of wireless Apple Car Play is as good as any Pioneer I've had or my 2024 Toyota's onboard audio system. I'm very happy with this radio for its price point. I thought it might have some sort of lacking audio quality but I'm not hearing it on my truck's speakers. I'm glad I took a chance on a generic radio like this because it behaves just like ones that cost much more.

I think the only thing that doesn't seem true to the advertisement is that the buttons above and below the volume knob don't light up on mine (and don't light up in the pics from other reviewers.)

I kind of prefer that they don't light up, honestly.

    Revive Your Old Beater!!!

This Kissound wireless carplay unit has actually been a pleasant surprise. Installing this will revitalize your older vehicle just a bit and bring its audio system up to date with current technology. The kissound system actually works better than many of the newer vehicles' laggy factory installed tablet style units. It is very responsive and has a smooth transition from screen to screen. The brand is not well known but I took a chance on it vs the many other carplay head units listed here on Amazon based on the positive reviews. It works well! I mean really really well!!! It has more features than many of the much higher priced units out there.
I started off with the 10.1" model but it was slightly too large for this dash setup so I moved that over to my Titan and installed the 7 inch 2 button model paired with a Scosche ICGM8BN installation kit in my 2004 Suburban. The screen is excellent! There is a micro usb as well as a usb-A port on the front of the unit for mp3's and thumb drives. The usb-a is also used for taking advantage of the mirror link option. I had trouble getting mirror link to work in the beginning until I realized you will need to turn off carplay on your phone and use a high grade usb cable. Speaking of carplay, it works flawlessly! It works just as well as the factory unit that came in my 2025 Toyota. The reverse camera works very well. It lowers the sound while you reverse. Note: the reverse camera video is not high quality 4k or anything of the sort but for me, that is not necessary. You can clearly see what is behind you. I really only use it to easily line up a trailer hitch. The unit has many inputs and outputs like front camera, video in, subwoofer out, etc….which I personally don't need but they are available. Cant speak on longevity at the moment but these Kissound units are a great value for the money!!!

The stereo FM is good as is the Bluetooth phone. The backup camera works good. The only problem is that it can't find AM stations,I tried the AM stations on 2 radios both couldn't find AM Stations! The AM Stations on the original radio was good. I like everything about this unit except no AM Stations,so I will keep it and do without AM stations as it was a very low price!

A great stereo at this price point. I installed this in to a Jeep. The install was fast with quite possibly the best install and user manual ive seen.

The stereo itself sounds great, and wirelessly connects to my apple for carplay, thus giving me nav and internet radio.

The interface is intuitive and there are an absolute ton of settings that allow you to customize this unit to fit your needs.

The included camera works well and does what it should..

Overall im happy with it, especially for this price… getting a couple more for other vehicles!

Great head unit for the money

You can't beat this head unit for the price, especially buying on Prime day at a discount. My phone connects automatically to Carplay within 15 seconds. Startup itself is very fast. Carplay functions perfectly. The sound quality is better than the cheap factory radio in my Crown Vic P71. I'm a big radio listener, so my only little nitpick is that when I connect to Carplay, it automatically begins playing music in the Carplay apps. I then have to pause that music and then go back to the radio to resume using the radio during Carplay. Several screen touches to do that, but at this price point, I can't really complain. WELL worth the money and better than expected. I used the Metra wiring adapter to easily hook it up to the car after making the splices.
Lastly, Kissound’s customer support was super fast and good. Within a day they sent me a custom startup graphic to upload and quickly answered a couple other questions I had. Highly recommend this head unit, as long as it holds up.

    Fully-featured budget carplay stereo upgrade

This is my third installation of this type of carplay double-din screen upgrade and this model edges out the previous two with faster boot time, shallower depth for installation, and quickest connection to my phone (probably because it boots up faster). I installed this in a 2002 Toyota Camry for my daughter to help keep her eyes on the road and make gps navigation, calls, and messages more easily hands-free. Once you get used to navigation and other phone features, it is hard to go back to the CD-player days!

This was a quick and easy installation, with clear directions for the stereo installation and setup, and wiring guide for the stereo side of the wiring harness. For my 2002 Camry install, I also needed to pick up a model-specific trim kit (I used this one B00BAO15UE) and Toyota wiring harness (I used this one B0002BEQJ8). It is easiest to connect the stereo and vehicle sides of the wiring before you start the installation so it is ready to plug-and-play when you need it. This kit came with a dash tool that made removing the trim panels from my dash easy, and then I just needed a 10mm socket to remove/install the old/new stereo units. The depth of this unit is MUCH more shallow than the CD-player it replaced, so there was ample room to deal with the wire connections in the back. I should note that this Camry was a lower trim, so no upgraded speakers or steering wheel controls to worry about. I think the final result looks very "factory" (see photo) with just a couple decades newer tech.

There are a ton of features you can configured on this stereo, from backlight colors, to equalizer settings, and the backup camera looks/works very much like the OEM camera in one of our newer Toyota vehicles so it was familiar for my daughter to use. The connection to a phone is automatic when the car starts up once you have it connected for the first time, so it is pretty much set it and forget it, with wireless carplay every time you drive (no Android phone to test with, just an iPhone). This let's my daughter plug in her phone to charge and can leave it tucked away and out of her hands while she drives (a little peace of mind for us parents).

For this price, I will replace every older stereo we ever have in any future cars we buy. The convenience is worth the effort and it really helps the car feel more "modern" than it probably is.
