I wouldn't exactly call the cord chew "proof" because small teeth could certainly get though; so unless your pet doesn't like the taste of metal, I'd probably call it chew "resistant." The included screws for the bracket were a bit cheap too so I had to use my own.
As for performance, it's actually not bad for a space no bigger than 10×10, 12×12 max. At least to keep the heat consistent. It's rated @ 150 square feet (~10×15), but I gave it a whirl in a 12×14 room and it couldn't keep up. Too small to use for a garage imo, even with the doors closed. Definitely not as loud as I was expecting though, even on the second, more powerful setting.
Getting to the build, the outer case is plastic, but the front grill and mesh covering the intake are both metal. The onboard thermometer isn't perfectly accurate compared to my digital one that I used as a control, but good enough, at least to measure relative difference. Sucks that it doesn't come with a handle either because even the outer case gets hot after it's been on for about 10 minutes. That's pretty standard for all space heaters. You need to let them cool down before handling them anyway.
Overall, it's a pretty basic heater with only 2 temp ranges and a relatively short cord. However, the bracket holds well against wood, so it's certainly mountable up high, and it shuts off when it reaches the upper limit of the range. You can't control it wirelessly so there's no remote or app, but it works just fine as a stand-alone device. It even has little rubber feet so it doubles as a portable heater. Brilliant for an ice-fishing hut if you're got the right power supply. Four stars from me.
