This is exactly what I have been looking for. When I do video interviews, I want to be able to be sure that I stay in the frame of the camera, but I can’t use my iPhone’s better back camera and see what’s on its screen simultaneously. That’s where this comes to the rescue.
I love that I can magnetically snap this to the rear of the iPhone (or just keep it in my view) to keep an eye on what the camera sees. The magnetic attraction works well. I just wish the MagSafe magnets were built into the rear of the display itself, but at least they’re in the case, and you’ll probably want to always keep a case on this.
This takes about 19 seconds to boot up. It’s nice that it immediately displays information on how to connect. Connecting to my iPhone was pretty simple: scan a QR code, then select this screen from the AirPlay menu. That method has inexplicably failed to work at two different times, but if I try again, it’s worked the second time. Hopefully in the future they can turn this into a single-step process: just select the display in the AirPlay menu without having to scan any code.
I love that I can use this screen while it’s charging, so I don’t have to worry about battery life during long interviews. The transmission range is indeed excellent. I walked far away with this and didn’t have any problems.
I saw the warnings on the product page that this doesn’t support 4K shooting in Apple’s native camera app, but I don’t know what they’re talking about. I was able to record 4K footage in my iPhone camera app and preview it live on this monitor. The monitor did lag at times, but it didn’t seem to affect the recording.
The screen is bright and beautiful. It is a touchscreen, but that doesn’t mean you can control your phone through it. As much as I want to try to, I’m unable to manipulate my iPhone’s screen through this device. Instead, the touchscreen is there for settings access. It’s also there so you can record to the Mini SD card (I’m guessing that’s what won’t record 4K?). I don’t really understand why you’d want to record to this device? If I’m out of storage on my iPhone, a 16GB SD card isn’t going to do much, but okay.
There’s also a headphone jack on here, but I was unable to hear any audio using headphones during either live recording or recording playback. Volume on the display was up, too, so I’m not sure what’s wrong.
This isn’t ultralight and thin but it’s not heavy, either, and it sure beats the size of the other displays I was using before for the same purpose.
Picture is great and connects well to older phone. I have newest Samsung S25 Ultra and even with firmware update for the monitor it will not stay connected to Bluetooth. Shimbol admitted this was a known issue but still no fix yet.
Love it. Works well with my iPhone using the rear camera. I didn’t think I’d use it this much. Setting up took a fair bit of time but after that, all is one and done. I’m starting to like taking photo with my iPhone main camera now.

Warning: this Shimbol phone selfie monitor will make you feel like a legit influencer! The 5-inch touchscreen monitor is crystal clear, and the wireless transmission is ridiculously easy to set up.
