I was initially excited to install the AkaGear Keyless Entry Door Lock with Handle Set, especially due to the promise of advanced security features like the fingerprint door lock. The electronic deadbolt works flawlessly, providing smooth and reliable access every time. However, the handle and latch mechanism have been a different story.
Within just a couple of weeks of installation, I began experiencing issues with the exterior handle. The latch wouldn’t turn enough to open the door, which became a major inconvenience. A few days later, I found myself locked inside my house because the interior handle spun freely, failing to disengage the latch. After taking the handle apart to inspect the latch, I found it was broken.
I reached out to AkaGear support, and while they quickly responded with a video on how to recalibrate the latch, the solution didn’t resolve the problem. I followed the instructions, but the issue persisted. After replying to let them know the problem remained, their response was less than helpful – simply thanking me for my purchase and asking if I needed anything else. At this point, I’m left without the resolution I was hoping for.
In an attempt to solve the issue, I ordered a 45-degree turn latch from Amazon, which has fixed the latch engagement problem, but the exterior handle still requires significant effort to turn, making it difficult to open the door.
While the electronic deadbolt works well, the handle and latch have proven to be problematic. I’m still within the 30-day return window and am considering returning the product for something of better quality. Overall, I can’t recommend this product unless you're okay with potentially having to fix or replace parts very soon after installation. The customer service experience, unfortunately, hasn’t helped either.
