Almost as good as the OEM AR Power adapter

5 out of 5 stars

Almost as good as the OEM AR Power adapter
Hands down the best off brand AR power adapter I have. I have all xreal product , xreal glasses, beam, and hub with my ROG Ally. LIVIN works well with all of them. Xreal hub only support 45W power throughput but this off brand model works up to 100W. I tested with my monitor cord to show it reaches 55W but I seen it goes up to 65W because my Power Bank is 65W output so I'm sure it can reach 100W as described. I was able to perform everything xreal hub can do but the only down side is it only support 60 Hz instead of 120 Hz with xreal hub which is significant decrease. But other than that, this product provide battery throughput wins my heart overall. It does get hot if you use it extensively.

This product works as advertised for its intended use, in my case connecting USB-C sources such as my iPad Pro and Switch to my Viture One AR glasses.

In a perfect world, given that AR glasses accept a USB-C input, and the said devices are known to output video over USB-C, one can imagine plugging the AR glass's source USB-C end directly into one of these devices and merrily going on your way, blissfully entranced in a giant projected screen and never needing to make eye contact with another human being again. My dear reader, this is not our world; (evident by you here, reading this review and evaluating the merits of the LIVIN AR Glasses Adapter.)

As a metaphor, you and your device are the protagonist Danny Roman from the 1998 film The Negotiator, who becomes embroiled in a tense and escalating imbroglio in the first act. What he and you need is Chris Sabian, the eponymous Negotiator, as a neutral party who can be trusted to act impartially at your direction to unravel a much deeper mystery.

If you have ever tried to plug a Switch directly into a USB-C display, you likely know the disappointment that it is often not that simple. (I did have a travel monitor that needed no help, an exception to the rule if there ever was one. Sadly, the backlight was uneven and contrast dreadful.) The reason why it is not simple is that upon connection, the Switch (Danny Roman) must to be assured of two things before he will acquiesce: 1) that there is ample power available (preferred 39W from the OEM AC adapter, or about 45W from elsewhere), and 2) has DP Alt support (don't ask).
The LIVIN AR adapter will accede to both of these stipulations, as it can readily make the DP Alt request and pass through power you have supplied through a side port. (Style points for using a right-angle plug.) Now you are playing with power and can put your glasses on. (Hoobastank?) The end.

    Afterword
I've since found that the LIVIN adapter has more versatility than just AR glasses, and has worked for most scenarios I can devise where the power provided to the adapter's side port needs to be bi-directional — it needs to charge the source device (Switch, iPad) and can power the output device (portable monitor) along with the video signal, cleanly over a USB-C 3.1 10gbps cable. Bravo.
Another one is where you are using a USB-C to HDMI cable to send video from a laptop or iPad to a TV. Now you can do this while also charging. Additionally, since the LIVIN adapter talks DP Alt, a Switch is now a viable input. Splendid.
The last odd use involves a unidirectional HDMI + power to USB-C output. A cable I already owned allows an HDMI input device (Blu Ray, Analogue Super NT) to combine with 5V USB-A and output USB-C and a usually unhelpful amount of power. Since the LIVIN adapter source input end is also male, you must additionally supply a USB-C F-to-F coupler (USB 3.1 or better) to create a connection without the tips touching. DisplayPort indeed.

I bought this to use my Viture Pro XR glasses with my Nintendo Switch OLED.

I didn't want to buy the Viture pro mobile or the dock as they were expensive and instead, I took a chance with this one.

At first, it didn't work but I found out that the Apple Mac power supply was only 30W.

You need at least a 65W charger.

Other than that, it works fine. If there's one thing I wish could be improved upon (but not sure how), it's the USB-C male port. It easily detaches from my Nintendo Switch, and I made sure it was firmly inserted.

When I first got this adapter, less than 6 months ago, I gave it 5 stars, for a mix of value (price) and functionality. Now I’ve flipped.

I have a pair of Viture XR glasses. I’ve used this adapter with my Steam Deck, the XR glasses, and a power brick.

    Worked great…..until it didn’t.

I started getting my glasses randomly drop off. At first I thought that a cable had gone bad.

After trying numerous cables and different combinations, I found out that this USB-C adapter had gone bad and was now an aluminum paperweight.

I reached out to the company that made it (support email is painted on the side of the adapter), but after a week, I gave up.

I ended up buying Viture‘s USB-C adapter. It works great! You can check out my review of that.

For as long as this worked (less than 6 months), it worked great (got hot, but worked great). Once it stopped working, nothing could bring it back from the dead.

Stay away from this cheap copycat adapter from a company who has zero customer service. They don’t even have an auto response on their email letting you know that they received your email.

    Boo!

Works fine but the the usbc cable that is permanently attached is too short only around 6 inches or less and stiff difficult to orientate the device to desired position.
Outer metal housing case loose after few usage! Housing case slides back and forth when trying to remove or plug in cable.
Wish future model can include additional usbc port to connect external otg drive and have built in sdcard slot.

Got it to use with my various devices. Was able to use with my steam deck and ROG ally without issue. Device was getting charge (cannot verify if it can hit the 100W that is advertised), and my Xreal Air got the video fine. However, though the switch was advertised I was having issues. After talking to support, they mentioned that for the Xreal AR glasses you need to make sure the glasses are up to date. Then, after connecting the dongle to the switch, and the glasses to the dongle, you need to hold the brightness down button until you hear one beep, then hold the brightness up button until you hear 2 beeps. That solved the issues I had with no audio. You have to do this each time you connect to the switch.

Works well with Rayneo Air 2 connected to Nintendo Switch or Steamdeck. Solves the problem of running out of battery when using the AR glasses.
