I had the opportunity to try a couple of review samples of other graphics tablets recently and I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them. I am basically a beginner and just getting back to trying out newer generations of these types of tablets. I was so impressed with those first two examples that I thought it would be great to try out a slightly different style of tablet and form factor to see how they compared, so I requested this Veikk S640.
I will say that this unit has very good build quality. The stylus pen is very comfortable to hold and feels good in actual use. This unit is very thin and light, but also sturdy. I was able to get up and running with this in no time. Setup should be very straight forward for anyone well versed in Windows. I did not find that setting this up was difficult in any way. (Note: I did NOT test functionality under Android or Linux. The maker claims equal operation under all 3 OS's and I have no reason to doubt that)
However, in actual use, I ended up with the overall feeling that this Veikk example was just a bit too small for my personal liking. I tested another tablet previously that has an active area of about 10 inches by 6 inches. That dimension felt ok me as if that size is the "Goldilocks" zone in my opinion. This Veikk S640 example has an active area of about 6 x 4 inches. I found that difference very noticeable after getting accustomed to the prior Drawing Tablet. Don't get me wrong… This Veikk has very good build characteristics and performs many of the same tasks in much the similar fashion. I just ended up realizing I prefer the larger work area surface.
I do not have a need to be mobile with a graphics tablet. I prefer to use one at a fixed location with a desktop and ample workspace. However, I can see where others would have a need to be able to carry a drawing tablet around from location to location. This item is compact and easily transportable. Given that this has very good build quality, ease of operation and performs very well, I am still going to rate this tablet at a solid 4 out of 5. I am sure this form factor would be just fine for others with needs a little bit different than mine.
