For the price this is a great little camera but to get it to perform you definitely need to do some manual tweaking to it, and not all video programs make this easy.
First off, this camera has an autofocus lens and can easily focus on something as close as an inch away. You can get a real extreme closeup with this! At about arms length it gives a good head-and-shoulders shot for one-on-one video conferencing or livestreaming. In a dark room it can even produce a reasonable, but slightly spooky looking image using just the built in LED lights. The brightness of the lights is controlled by a small dial on the side of the camera, they are not computer controlled. At arms length it produces good crisp detail, you can easily see individual hairs in your eyelashes and (unfortunately) every imperfection in your skin.
Unfortunately the auto white balance seems to have some issues. I find the camera frequently comes up with a sort of "golden hour" sunset sort of look even though my room is well lit with 5600k photo studio lights. Even if I manually set the camera to 5600k it still looks wrong. I have to back the setting down to 3500k to get a normal daylight looking color balance. Also it's a bit inconsistent, sometimes it comes up looking better than others. But if you are patient and tweak the settings till everything looks correct, you can get a very good image out of this camera. You will get the best performance in a well lit location, the built-in leds can be adjusted to provide some fill light or light very closeup shots.
This camera should be very good for closeup shots of products, electronics or other small things. It's capable of focusing close enough give you a shot of a coin or stamp that almost fills the screen.
If they fixed the weird white balance issues this would be a 5 star camera, but I have to take off a star because it almost always requires manual adjustment to look good, even under good lighting.
