On Amazon Prime Day I had the opportunity to buy and evaluate a lot of Smart LED bulbs and for me the installation of this product was the best and most reliable.
With this product once I verified I was on the right network (SSID) and installed the smart bulb, and made sure I had the right APP (Smart Life), it was immediately discovered and ready for installation. By the way if one has a very large house, I recommend a network mesh over repeaters. With other bulbs one has to go through gyrations of turning on, off, waiting, multiple on off sequences or whatever. With this one it was automatically in setup mode once I screwed the bulb into a socket with power and immediately discovered. Once I chose Alexa integration it took care of the skill integration and magically the device was there and ready for use, assigning to a group or room, etc. In fact I did all the preliminary setup in my lab, unscrewed the light bulb and went to install it in the target location. It worked immediately while other bulbs had to be installed directly in the target location or it didn't work.
Not all devices, apps, or Smart Home services are created equal. So my preferences are Alexa, Smart Life App, and the HVS Smart LED bulb (Home Venus S? – Don't know what the S is for but box label say Home Venus while the Amazon listing says HVS).
p.s. I am a senior systems engineer and if I am having struggles getting some of the devices to work I can only imagine the frustrations of a novice.
Having learned all of the lessons with these experiences, my conclusion is that it is worth buying Smart Home products that install without all the head aches regardless of the price differences.
One final thought is that I found that unless you have a switch with lots of light bulbs (eg large number of security lights on same switch) it is generally simpler and easier to buy Smart color dimmable LED lights that you can control individually or in any form of grouping you like than having to swap switches (yourself or via an electrician who generally hates this kind of work) with the difficulty of install the DECORA style switch in an old style box that is far too crammed to do easily. Now all of the usage and control is switched over to Alexa. If all is working properly, one uses voice control and never touches or uses the physical switches again. The installation is cheaper, easier, and safer. And with Echo Dots selling for $18 on Amazon Prime Day, you can now make your entire home smart from so little compared to thousands of dollars for an electrician rewiring your house a couple of decades ago.
In conclusion this was the best Smart LED bulb product that I have evaluated so far and a key to the simplest and most effective installation.
