First I will go over the fitment of the Fire TV remote:
I have an Insignia 70" Fire TV and the remote for it is between 1/4" & 1/2" longer than a normal Fire Stick/TV remote. I was able to modify the Fire TV remote by removing the lower 1/2" of the battery cover and the back cover of the remote. This allowed the batteries for the Philips remote to fit. I then had to remove some of the inner ribs of the Philips remote battery cover in order to fit over the front of the Fire TV remote. I know many are not willing to do this, but after programming this remote and realizing it was going to work really well with my equipment, I was determined to make it work. As you can see in the photo, I got it to fit and it looks fine.
Second, I will cover functional pros & cons I have with this remote.
Pros:
– This remote was very simple to program and it works flawlessly with all of my audio/video equipment. I was impressed that they added the audio priority feature.
– I like the feel of the remote in my hand but I have seen other reviews where someone called it "heavy". I like that. It doesn't feel cheap.
Cons:
– There is no "all on" or "all off" function. If you are using 4 things you have to press the TV button then power, then the STR button and press power, then the DVD button and press power and finally you have to press the AUD button and press power. Then you have to do the same thing when you turn it off. This is a big mistake in the design in my opinion. This remote would have otherwise been a strong 5 stars for me!
– The screws on the bottom that hold the battery cover on will not last long. The screws will, but the screw holes in the plastic will not. There should have been some brass inserts installed so that the threads will last longer. This is a sad cut corner by the manufacturer. Sad because it's cheap and it would add much more functional longevity to the product.
If you have a normal Fire Stick or Fire TV remote, this is an overall great choice at this price point. If you have a Fire TV remote like mine that is pictured in this review, it will not fit unless you modify the Fire TV remote. I understand that most people will not do that but I am an engineer and making things work is what I do for a living. Also, if you have a Fire Stick 4K, they also have the longer remote so it may have fitment issues as well. Just be prepared.
I hope this helps some people in their purchase and helps to prepare themselves for the fact that their Fire remote might not fit.
