Functional, Portable Off-Grid Power

5 out of 5 stars

Functional, Portable Off-Grid Power
Very impressed with this portable solar panel charger. Fairly small form factor, very well designed and built, and loaded up with functionality. 60 watts of power available, much more than some of the other available units. Two different USB ports including a high-power one, as well as one of the round 'barrel connector' type of DC outputs, and a load of different barrel tips to fit your various devices. I tested it right out of the box on my iPad Air and iPhone outside, and before the panels were even fully unfolded they were charging. There's a red indicator light beside the power ports that lets you know the unit is receiving enough light and is activated. After the outdoors test, I brought the unit inside and found that just the light coming down into my kitchen from our skylights was enough to activate the device, and charge my iPad Air and iPhone at the same time… impressive indeed. Bear in mind however, direct outdoor sunlight will always provide the highest amount of power production and fastest charge rates. In short, very impressed here. Everything from the construction, portability and functionality.. to the power level and the fact that it just flat works, with plug-and-play ease.

    good power in full sun
lots of adapters fits almost anything
would like an adapter for power stations

I was able to get about 12 Watts max full Arizona sun at moderate temperatures, high in the mountains.
Not complaining, perfect for moto camping, enough power to fully charge a battery bank during the day at the campground, while gone exploring.

I never saw a product show up so fast but to my surprise I really needed this for small units. It picks up very well pass my expectations 😳

Size: 30WAmazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What’s this? )

This 30W panel delivers on its basic promise of portable solar charging, but the power distribution design creates unnecessary limitations for real-world use. The build quality feels solid with the ETFE coating and reinforced hinges, and at 1.54 pounds it's genuinely portable. The included carabiners setup straightforward whether you're mounting to a tent or positioning on uneven ground.

Where it falls short is power delivery flexibility. To access anything close to the advertised 30W, you must use both the USB-C and USB-A ports simultaneously. The USB-C maxes out at 18W PD, which means you can't efficiently charge a single high-draw device like a laptop or larger power bank at full speed. In testing with direct sunlight, I consistently saw around 20-22W combined output when using both ports, dropping to 16-18W even in full sun exposure with just USB-C.

The lack of true Power Delivery protocol support is particularly frustrating when 40W panels with full PD capability cost just a few dollars more. Those alternatives let you channel all available power through a single USB-C connection, simplifying cable management and improving charging efficiency for modern devices.

For basic phone and small battery bank charging during day hikes, this panel works fine. The multiple output options and included adapters provide decent compatibility. But if you need flexible power distribution for varied devices or want to maximize charging speed for a single device, better options exist in this price range.

This little packable solar array is very handy for a bug out bag or hiking pack. It fits perfect in a laptop sleeve in mine. It seems surprisingly well made, all the components feel like they are solid, not nearly as flimsy as I was expecting. My only gripe is the power output, I never could achieve the rated output even in full light, but I did get sufficient power to charge my phone at an acceptable rate but not its fastest. I think if you hang this from your ruck while walking and just let it do its thing though, it will be fine.

I am not able to give you any technical info on this solar panel. You can read the stats on the sellers page for that. What I can say is that this thing works. It is very compact, easy foldout and easy refold. The outputs are convenient and also easy to use. It is nice to know that I have a recharging piece of equipment in case of emergencies. To know that I can recharge my phone, radio and camp light, is a real plus.

The design is impressive and rugged. It has become a necessity in my go bag.

Works, though I don't see how you'll get 30W out of it.

This is appropriately sized to be a 30W panel (in one of my other reviews I've got an image of 3.5 to 100W panels, (unlike that one) this one fits size wise, so I didn't compare to panels other than a similar panel that when I ordered this didn't realize was from the same company, but the other panel was pretty good (and matches the % of rating of good panels when I've tested.)

This panel is on the right in the unfolded picture. left on the folded picture. it's more square, and doesn't fold quite as flat.

I was only able to get a max of 18W out of either panel today. We had some high level smoke/clouds. (Still was very bright.) I'm not sure you can get 30W out of this panel at all. It only has USB-C and USB-A connections. When you plug in both (only way to get higher) the USBA drops to low, and the USB-C has most of it. (Numbers I had were it dropping to 6W (per display, not necessarily perfect.) + 8.4V@1.4A (11.76W) getting up to 18W, but no higher. Not sure if it would had the sun been perfect, if it could have pushed out more or not.

Either way, Even if it's only 18W it being a 30W panel should give you that 18W a lot more often than a smaller panel. You seldom see 100% of a panel's rating. (I have some which meet it semi regularly and they were getting about the same percentage as the 30W. They have exceeded it by a fair margin, but only high altitude, on a highway after a rainstorm then full sun.)

Now let's talk price. This thing is currently $70, the other panel is $40, and has more features. It's from the same company so, I don't know why the discrepancy. This seems to not be a great value comparatively, with most 30W panels being half the price. (Check the size though.)

Overall, I think I'm going to give this 4 stars because of the combination of value and fewer features compared to others. It's not bad technically, but it does seem about twice as much as similar and mildly better options.

Technically decent panel, not sure the value is there for this product.
