Ice pack area is small, works well
We often are gone over a weekend for 2 to 3 days and I liked the idea that this feeder could go up to 48 hours. I programmed it after looking at the product description and the little booklet that came with it. This was not too hard to do. Both sides popped when they should have. My main problem with the feeder is that if it is programmable for up to 48 hours, and you like to feed your cats, wet food, the areas for ice packs (which do not come with the product) is pretty small. As with another feeder we use, we have to set the device on an ice pack – and that does work, but it would be better if the area below the food was a little bigger. This feeder offers a cute design and runs on 4 AA batteries.

    I would prefer less intense light or no light except a tiny "on" indicator after it's set. My cats are still skittish of it popping open and the light startles them, but they will eat out of it after a while, whereas they won't go near any other kind of automatic feeder that I can put wet food in. Not closing on them, nor making noise like the others is a great feature! The digital interface means no noise for them to be afraid if, or for me to be bothered by. It doesn't insulate the food well so frozen foods thaw quickly, limiting how long I can leave frozen canned food in them but it's the only useful canned food auto feeder I've found. It's reliable and the batteries last a long time!

    I loved this item when I first bought it—after I figured out how to actually program it. I was looking forward to being able to sleep past 5 am, which is when my cat requires food. The feeder worked well for the first two months but now, one of the doors doesn’t open when it’s supposed to. This makes the feeder unreliable. Not sure if I’d buy another one.

    I haven't had them long, so I can't attest to longevity. I can say that I have a very food motivated, very strong cat and she hasn't managed to break in yet.

    I picked this brand over others because with two cats I didn't trust the turn dial version to open simultaneously. So far so good with this digital version. Because of how close together the 2 trays are I bought one for each cat. I set the left of each to go off for the 1st meal and the right side of each for the 2nd meal.

    I didn't find the controls to be intuitive, but super easy once you read the directions.

    The trays are made out of a very easy to clean plastic.

    My one complaint is they don't come with ice packs. I bought them 3rd party. I bought the kind that is sold for this machine as well as a set of small packs meant for first aid, neither version stays cold for more than 8 hours. I keep a few cans of cat food in the fridge to use when I'm using the feeders so it will remain colder longer.

    Overall I'm very happy with this feeder.

    The product description is very inaccurate. There is NO feature on this that works with your pet's microchip. I initially got this as my new cat is technically still a kitten and she needs to graze every so often to help fatten her up and my senior kitty loves to grab all the kibble he can get as if he needs all those calories for some upcoming grand battle that determines the fate of this planet.

    Unfortunately, when this arrived I was so flabbergasted that there was no setting for her microchip – I checked the manual, box, everything! For some reason, the product page mentions microchip which was how I found this on Amazon's site when I searched for a feeder.

    Sorry, fellow cat owners. you'll need to shell out two/three hundo for that fancy microchip feeder instead. I know I did.

    So, it has taken me a while to write this as I wanted to use it a couple of times. The first time it worked great, the second time only the left side opened (so my babies were not fed). The third time only the left side opened once again, I emptied the right side and cleaned it up, not the right side will not close. I would not buy this again. I do not write review until I use items, this is not one to buy.
